Title pretty much says it all. How do the wipers know where to stop?
-
Isn't there a switch in the motor that turns off once it makes a full revolution? If the relay isn't continuing to supply power to the motor it turns itself off? I have a spare motor and can tear into it to see but that is my memory talking for now.

That's pretty much it..

Well that's easier. You guys are faster than Google btw...

Yup. Just take the cover off the motor and you will see contacts dragging on a disk. I think mine needed a wipe or something and it went back to working again.

Catch us eating lunch and we can talk with our mouths full just by typing. Great multitasking exercise. Gets the brain off on other ideas. Lets me come back to the old problems fresh.
We are going to beat the Chrome commercial of making french fries at the same time the question gets asked here.

Now can you fix this issue. Mine doesn't work so good.
-
I don't have an issue... at least not with wipers. I was thinking of building something with the wiper motor but I needed to know how it worked first.
-
My '91's wipers never worked right. They would always stop midway. I never bothered to look how they worked, but it sounds like a pretty easy fix to get them working right.

If you want to see how the electrical connections are made internally, check out http://www.stensat.org/projects/wiper_motor/low_res/wiper_motor_internals.htm (http://www.stensat.org/projects/wiper_motor/low_res/wiper_motor_internals.htm)

put a wiper relay in there.. VW wipers work with no relay. they just dont park, or do anything like there supposed to.

That helps, thank you.

Mine do that when it isnt raining. If I bump the control stalk and it isnt raining, they will go up half way, stop, than go all the way stop, and stay there. If its raining, no issues. I find it charming.
