Title: vanagon IP issues
Post by: motomike33y on September 10, 2011, 05:45:01 pm
just got my vanagon on the road for my annual usage.  Noticing two issues.  When the van is warm--45 minutes driving at 60mph, then sitting for a while-I'm encountering starting difficulties.  Having to activate glow circuit/use cold start knob, etc.  It starts easily when cold.  Second, a couple times the IP would not accellerate when I stopped at an intersection.  Once it even died, but normally it idles and I have to either feather the accellerator until it decides to work, or go back and manually do the same thing with the lever on the pump.  It doesn't happen consistently, but it happened twice today-both time when engine was warmed up.  Any thoughts?  I'm thinking of contacting Giles about rebuilding my other pump for it, but in the meantime I'd like to solve this problem.  thanks.  mike

I'd say you have two issues.

First, I think you are sucking in some air

Second, I think you have some bad wires and need to do a voltage drop test (hard hot starts)
