Title: question for the canadian gurus
Post by: ilikevwdiesel on September 01, 2011, 05:12:33 pm
would all 94 Golf AAZ cars have a regular IP with a K14 turbo or did some of them come with eco engines?

As far as I'm aware, they will all be normal. I've never seen/heard of an eco mk3 in Canada

Same here.  I have seen differences in turbos though.  Some with the triangular three bolt flange and some with the four bolt flange like the 1.6td.  I worked on one that looked to have the garrett t2 turbo as well.

Ecos are very rare. I think they were primarily on the 92 Passat. As for the turbo I have heard that the early mk3s had the K14 while the later ones were all K03s but I don't know for sure

I've never seen an eco as stock in a MK3 but I have seen a modified 1.9L as an eco. Just block the LDA from getting air from the turbo.

thats NOT an eco.. thats basically a TD with a n/a pump on it now. ECO cars have an LDA, and it functions..

ECOs have smaller turbos, smaller plungers in the injection pump, catalytic converters, and a few other differences. they ARE DIFFERENT, and as tyler said, are very rare..

MK3 AAZ could have a k14 or a k03.  All MK3s that I have seen (20 or so) have LDA pumps.  My 93 b3 passat with the same engine has a non-lda pump, I assume to keep the mpgs up because the car is heavier.   I have also seen non A/C from the factory as well as TDI sprockets.   FYI, all AAZs with regular sprocket will fail.  MK3s seem to go between 300k km and 400k km (about 75% I have parted out have failed).

Not the 1.9 eco. It is identical to the true TD version with the exception of the LDA. Although some did come with an 8mm H/R, but I think that was only the NA versions.

I've had several B3/4s and none of them have had the LDA equipped IPs.  Coincidence maybe?  A couple of the early ones, like the recent part out, had the K14 while the later ones had the K03s.
