Title: Jetta mk1 guide pin sourcing
Post by: Darkness_is_spreading on August 29, 2011, 04:15:13 pm
Hey everyone it's been a while since I have been back on the form so I am saying hello to all.

I have run into some issues in regards to my build.  83 Jetta.

I need to source some guide pins, I have to vw # and have been using ETKA to get some info on the pieces..

Part 8#171 615 219
Part 9#171 615 219A

The original guide pins have gone missing ???, and I cannot source the above parts from VW as they are no longer available.
I have some local shops here and will be trying to get something but it is not looking good.

Sorry I should have explained my self in the original email.
I am looking for front caliper brake guide pins, they have a allen key end with a full body pin and the other end has threaded piece.

I am unsure of the head bolt trick?
Can old head bolts be used as a guide pin for the caliper brakes?

You might be able to "upgrade" to the newer style of guide pins that are 2 piece

he should rename his add "guide pin kit" as calling it guide pin boot kit to me implies the nylon and rubber boots! good find though for future reference!

85 never got that style, or if they did, it was only some of them.. ive owned 3 different 85 VWs, and EVERY ONE OF THEM had the old style caliper bolts, 1 piece..

but! 86 does have the new style barrel and bolt type of caliper bolts..

anyways, yes, the bolt from the 85 and older, and the bolt from the 86-up will work in either place..

i think the 2 piece style is just cheaper to build is all..

No, more for keeping things straight while you drop the head on.
