Title: Do people still rebuild injectors?

I looked for parts threw my normal vender and it doesn't look like parts are available. And i hate buying stuff from dealers...unless they actually do supply still.

If so, is it a super skilled task?

It isn't highly technical, really. The main ingredient is new nozzles. Stock ones are out there fairly cheap. I also sell the GTD nozzles as do some others on the board. You'll want to clean the injector bodies out and it's a good idea to have them pressure tested to set the opening pressure. This is done with shims and a pop tester which is essentially a hydraulic pump with a calibrated gauge on top. I do pop testing once in a while, but you may be able to find a local shop that can do this for you as well which might be more convenient.

its not that the originals wont cut it, its more that over time things wear and the original breaking pressure goes down gradually over time so the more mileage the injectors have on them the better the odds that they need the pressure calibrated.

also, things like overheating can kill a brand new injector in no time at all.


its been my expierence that when using used injectors they usually are somewhat worn because it seems that the average diesel owner doesnt ever get them rebuilt at proper intervals. for example i took about 50 used injectors that were of unknown quality to a bosch certified diesel shop and paid the guy $20 to pop test all $50 for me.  20 minutes later and he handed me back 46 bad injectors and 4 that were marginal. the guy felt so bad that he gave me 2 bottles of stanadyne diesel fuel additive for free.

I would like my injectors rebuilt but don't want to make a pop tester etc. If I can't find a place locally, are there any good places I can send them to be rebuilt and tested?

Look in your yellow pages for "Fuel Injection" the shops will be there, just call till you find one what works on Bosch.

I've been pretty happy with Jim's Fuel Injection in Vancouver, BC

Contact Smog on this forum. He lives in Montreal.

He rebuilded many injectors for TDI/IDI engines and he has good feedbacks after few years and many miles!  :wink:

Contact Tom at ColoradoBiodiesel.com.  He rebuilds them better than factory spec, and makes custom for biodiesel/SWO conversions.  I got a set of 4 from him for $140 including shipping, and they're working great.  He details the whole process on his site.
