anyone have any interest in an 84 rabbit? its a whole car, minus engine.. im keeping that for my Jetta. im looking at getting a few hundred bucks for it..

84 is kinda a 1 off year.. there are quite a few parts specific to the 84 rabbits. like the inner fenders, and the bumper brackets.
yes, im also keeping the 4A 4 speed original to the car..
no enkeis. no window sticker. no engine. you can have the trans in it tho.. its a wonderful, highly sought after GC trans!! (i hope all of you caught the sarcasm there)
new windshield, GOOD 84 WING WINDOWS!!!!!!! 100mph diesel speedo also
basically just an AWESOME, RUST FREE car.. its got a full interior, only thing missing will be the engine..
im open to offers. im not going to JUST GIVE IT AWAY, but im not looking to rip anyone off either..
im gonna say it again..
GOOD STYLE WING WINDOWS!!!
again, this is a whole car, minus the engine.. drop in an engine and you have a running, driving car..
-
Where is the love for this poor baby. Like I said the other night I now know how you guys collect VW's. If I wasn't running up and down the state every week I might just try and drop a good engine and trans in this bad boy.
I you decide to start parting it out I call dibs on the front grill, wing windows and the speedometer. If it has the tach I'd need the alternator as well. It just looks to good to start the cannibalization.
How's them seats and carpet?

im NOT parting it out.. period. the car is too nice. if i part it out, im going to keep all the desirable parts..
if someone wants parts, they have to buy the whole car, and not tell me that they parted it out.
i do still love the car, but it needs more love than i am able to offer..
besides, im WAY partial to mk2 cars..

i have a diesel rabbit speedo if you need it.. i cant remember if its the 85 mph speedo, or the 100 mph speedo. i think its an 85mph speedo.
-
Taken it to the PM side.
-
bump.. TTT
-
Was it originaly a turbo diesel?
-
Was it originaly a turbo diesel?
would not be for sale if it was original..
-
if you were on the east coast i would have that shell...
-
i cant believe nobody on the west coast wants it.. its literally, one of the nicest un-restored cars ive ever seen..
only reason im selling it, is because it would kill me to let that car sit and rust away.. someone needs to make something of this car..
and im not the person to do it..
-
Seriously people pick this up and love it, i so would if it wasnt 2,500k miles from me..... Bump because the rare beast needs a new home....
-
seriously, no interest?
i cant keep it, the county already says i have too many cars.. i cant keep adding to them, gotta get rid of some, not get more..
-
I bet guys from the rust belt would damn near kill for a shell this clean.
Free bump.

i know!
blows me away at how little interest ive had with this car.. i tried selling the whole car, turbocharged and intercooled, turn key car, with the enkeis on it for 2500 bucks before and got no serious attention on the car.. plenty of kids wanting to trade me mini vans, exploders, and civics tho..
maybe this color combo just isnt eye catching enough?
IDK!
this is literally the cleanest car ive ever laid hands on tho.. it has no rust (besides on the passenger fender where the arch is damaged, on the bottom, rear of fender, maybe 3" of the arch is damaged..
under the car, spotless.. still has the shifter boot that came factory under the car..
its a really good car, and i wish i could keep it, but i cant, because i have other projects more important than that car, and i know, inadvertently, i would just let it rott away, and that would kill me..
-
OK, I am asking my wife IF I can have a second. I will let you know kev. If all it needs is an engine and trans to make it go then I may have time for that now that my daily driver is nearing the paint stage.
-
it doesnt even need a trans, ill include the GC 4 speed thats in it right now.
i pulled the original 4A trans LONG AGO because it was starting to leak.. im keeping the 4A tho, because it has a .71 4th gear.
car only needs an engine. and i mean a whole engine. im dropping the engine out, and keeping it whole, well, as complete as needed to install in a mk2..
-
OK, I am asking my wife IF I can have a second.
You know brother, it's much easier to ask for forgiveness than it is permission ;D

i REALLY want you to buy this thing from me.. i have since put it on vortex, and ive had plenty of interest, but most of them want it for parts..
IF I WANTED THE CAR PARTED, I WOULD DO IT MYSELF!! lol..
like i said, this car needs someone to love it.. not destroy it. if i cant find someone that wants it for a car, and not parts, then i may very well just push it under a tree, and forget about it like the other VWs i have out back..

After 30 years together I know my wife better than to try that little trick. I bring it home and she will push it off the cliff into the canyon and I will never get an engine into it. Still working on it R.O.R Perhaps putting it outback with a tarp on it is best for now.
I am headed to Idaho this weekend to paint my project and will have more bargaining power when I come home with it mostly done. I am also working on a buddy to let me house it on his place while I gather parts. He is liking my ride and currently owns a newer Golf but wants to go the retro route and get into a diesel so give me a little time. How much do you think it weighs without the engine? I may be able to tow it with a Ranger PU I also own.

im strapped for time.. if it takes too long, its probably gonna go back to the kid i bought it from.. the county says i have too many cars already..
-
a ranger PU could pull it with motor, but it probably only weighs 2-300 lbs less the motor.
-
somebodys gonna have to figure something out.. i dont want to scrap such a nice shell, but i will if nobody wants it.. because i DO NOT love mk1s like i used to..
come on, somebody give this car a home! i dont wanna see it parted out or scrapped..
-
i wonder how much it would cost to ship one of these to california
-
I am pushing on my storage person right now. The big problem I see is that I will be headed the other direction for over a week and to come get this thing will take time. Has the county impossed a time to haul or we will and charge you type of sentence on you?
Can you move it around with the others and hide it for a bit?
Finally the most important piece of information is the cost. You can PM me with that if you would rather do that.
-
so, i got some goodies for my rabbit this weekend..
and im not selling it anymore.. its staying whole, and getting upgrades ;)
going outside to start the 5 speed swap right now ;)
my love for the car has been re-kindled a bit, and im really looking forward to pimping out my rabbit ;D
now, what to do about the horrid mk1 suspension??? i guess im going to have to start a build thread for the car now!
-
so how did you get passed the County asking you to remove some of your cars? Or was it just the ones that didn't run that had to go?
-
well, i was going to pull the engine, and transplant it to my jetta.. but now im just leaving the rabbit how it is. nobody was showing much interest anyways, everyone just wanted to part it out, and that would be a SHAME. now im not pulling the engine for the jetta. now that the engine is staying in the car, the county cant say jack squat about it..
they only complain about cars that dont run, and are not under cover..
in my county, if you have 2 vehicles, uncovered, that do not run, your property is considered a junk yard, and then they say that you need all the permits for it, or else have the cars in a building.
yes, if you have storage, you can have AS MANY CARS AS YOU WANT, running or not.. and not have to have junk yard permits.
the county doesnt seem to be too concerned about my 6 cars right now, i kept them busy with other, more important things, like properties with 30+ cars that havent moved in 30+ years.. ;)
-
In as much as I wanted to take this off your hands the plan had to involve another and his property. That didn't work and I am loosing out big time. But I know where it is and may come looking for it after my baby gets finished.

only thing i have that you may come looking for, is that header.. lol ;)
im keeping the rabbit now, and just gonna fix it up the little bit that it needs, throw a new suspension under it, and clean it all up. may even throw a proper exhaust under it. you can have the entire exhaust off my car if you decide to pick up that header i got.. its set up for the header, and hangs from original VW bracketry.

Thanks man, will look into it once the paint seals up, the grill and seals come in and I can find a bit of time. Probably need to swing your way on my way down south some weekend and compare cars. This is all the farther we got last night and today I worked on building the 10 by 20 temporary spray booth. Got the bugger up and mostly wrapped with plastic then needed to go for dinner.

Never painted in 95 degrees and low humidity before. Paint almost dried before it hit the car. Way to weird.

prolly gonna have some orange peel then.. gotta spray it WET and CLOSE.
-
No orange peel and we even have reducer for the 75-80 degree range. The gun my son has is flat out awesome. I would never have tried painting so close to the work but the gun is design for being 4 inches away and putting out an 8 inch pattern. With the overlap of 50 -60% we got the two colors on right before we lost most of the good light of the day. Somewhere about 630 PM.
Tomorrow the clearcoat and then I get to put it all back together again.
-
man I'd so be all over that if I was closer.
-
nobody wanted it when i was about to sell it.. now i wouldnt sell the car if someone came up to me with a fat pile of cash..
well, they might get the car, but not the engine.
i couldnt even get $2500 out of it!!!
so, im keeping it. ;)
-
If you were on the east coast that car would have been mine...
-
yes, but im on the WEST coast. the left coast is where its at baby 8)
-
I second that! Has everything to do with open spaces, no bodies, and great accessible places. So we have some rain, get a good jacket and go for a walk in it.
-
I think we got your rain over here this fall, you can have it back anytime!! We'll take your less rusty bodies in trade..
-
Crazy how this "Global Warming" opps I mean Climate Change thing is working.
And crazy to is how we can have 60 -120 inches of rain a year and still have those less than rusted bodies. That my friend is all about the salt. Only the cars that are right on the edge of the ocean and exposed to that spray seem to have that trouble here. Once away say even a half a mile the water is not as corrosive and all is good. The paint may wash off before the body starts rusting away. That happens a lot with the CC/BC type of paints that are in use today.
I lived in the Detroit area and Upper MI for a good part of my knucke busting life and i must say working on cars here is a treat compared to some 3 year old MI one.

uh, i think your a bit off, on the salt thing..
im 20 miles from the ocean. my cars still rust. the cars i have with no rust, did NOT come from here.. my rabbit was bought brand new in Hillsboro, Oregon, and lived its whole life in that area till i bought it and brought it to the coast..
see, with our cars, the bodies rust away from the outside, in...
with cars in the rust belt, they rust from the inside out.. (ive never seen an engine as disgusting as some of them from over east, or from canada)
seems like the cars on the coast die from a form of electrolysis almost..
-
im from pa, and i visited the detroit area this summer for work, i couldn't believe how rusty their cars were, i mean cars that were 5 years old has rust worse than a 20 year old car from pa would have, i didn't see any cars older than 10-15 years either. must salt the *** out of stuff there to help sell more cars.
-
A True optimist. Going to Detroit to find work. Isn't the entire state on food stamps or something by now? I was back there a year ago and couldn't believe the lack of businesses. Houses dirt cheap and no one even trying to look for work. It is like it disappeared a couple years ago.
-
Trev0rbr, you ought to see some of the stuff we have from northern PA, in particular Clearfield County.. WOW stuff from there makes the New York stuff look good...
