Title: about to rip my hair out
Post by: jettabrendan on August 11, 2011, 02:49:45 pm
okay so the alternator died in my car, you think it would be easy to find one right?? well clearly not in dryden ontario. after the third alternator i ordered this one is the closest one so far, everything is the same except for the connector to plug the tack signal wire in. mine has a blue wire and a red wire seperately from the the positive wire. instead this new one has a small d+ terminal beside the + terminal as well as the connector where the red wire goes? no terminal for blue exciter wire. would this d+ be the same as the original alt? im getting tired of charging my car every time i drive it and dont want to wait for another alt to come in, this is bs

d+ is exciter (blue) wire..

B+ is to the battery..

just swaped my car from a 65a alt, to a 90a alt.. made it charge beautifully. and gave me 1 more volt..

Normally VW diesel (as well as many other) alternators have 3 wires, B+, D+, and W.  B+ is battery positive, D+ is for the excitation circuit, and w for the tach.  Connect B+ and D+ as they were before, with the remaining wire going to the remaining terminal.  The terminals might be configured differently on this alt.  You may have to crimp on a different style of connector.  Post pics if you can.
