Title: Badly corroded radiator and aux fan switch
Post by: 92EcoDiesel Jetta on August 11, 2011, 02:27:46 pm
This is the 4 terminal brown switch on the flange at the end of the head under the camshaft lock slot. The metal sheath, which is copper with a coating (looks like tin) has been mostly eaten away and is has a slow leak via the o-ring. It was covered in this blue crusty deposit which I scraped away before I took this pic. The color looks like copper sulfate. I soaked the switch in Citric acid and it softens the deposit to a soft mud (both in color and consistancy)  which can be easily washed off with a tooth brush and water. What's the cause of this corrosion? Wrong coolant?

You can see the corrosion buidlup better in this flange pix.
