As this is the most used thread, I thought I'd post here just in case some are not aware.
On Monday morning the guy who inspired many to give 'tuning' a go rather than blind 'timing' passed away at his home. Known as Hagar, or Svend to his friends he will be missed by many.
RIP
Moderators please let this lie in the wrong place for a while, before shifting.
Thankyou
Mark

Here's the link to his 180 page saga. Difficult reading at times but loaded with great info. He wasn't always right about everything but I did learn tons from him.

Mark, did you get a PM on this? I haven't read that forum for awhile. 180 pages. Hagar should be proud for enlightening us all. I knew he took special fondest for you over there near the homeland. What a guy.

I am kinda new so I dont recall reading his posts, but I have seen multiple references to him (76MPG?). Terrible loss. Sorry to hear. :(

He was on that other forum EH.

Hagar was a nice chap born in an era of extreme views, often wound up people with strong self conviction [I can empathise with that ;D ], however was never after personal gain. His aspiration to reach 100mpg, never quite came off, but his idea of tuning for each individual engine was spot on, and his use of candles [presumably wick free] to improve old pump performance made sense.
I would have liked to have seen him in his selfbuilt gyrocopter, and his homestead; and if he's left me his engineering library, I'll be most happy ;).
God bless him.

The topic of wax was very important to Hagar. It did do a great job of restoring lost performance in a worn ve pump. I've tried it and noticed a difference. One thing Hagar never used wax for is penetrating fluid. Works really well at freeing up seized parts. He also had a way of changing struts with out a spring compressor. I never tried his method since I have a spring compressor but made me think about the different ways a job can actually be done. Thanks hagar, your memory will live on.

the next pint I hoist will be to his memory
I found his posts to be interesting, and his take on life enjoyable.
we are poorer as a VW diesel community for having lost him.
-
His method for installing the c clamps on the turbo downpipe works! Thanks Hagar. RIP
-
(I know this is horribly belated, but I just found out)
Thank you for all you taught us, Hagar. RIP

Wow, I hadn't seen this either. I remember perusing his rabbit thread on the other forum back when I first started tinkering with my AAZ.
Sad to hear about this, especially this long after the fact.
RIP Hagar
