I never liked the look of VW buses ... until I saw the first picture he posted of this one.
This picture was even better ... it's like a big metal puppy.

You should but a twin engine in it. I'm thinking 2    1.9tt's and all wheel drive with 150 shot of nitrous on both

(gosh the thoughts running through my head)

BULLY!

As the other AC/WC organ transplanter (just call me Dr. Christian Barnyard) here, I sure want to be kept informed on the progress of this uberkool project.

I'm slogging along doing a lot of time consuming rust exorcisim on my TD P-car, but I'm in it for the long haul.

I think I can, I think I can, (repeat)

If your interested, follow my progress (or lack there of) on my CarDomain site: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2145693

wow, a lot of rust repair there! good to see you getting through it, great progress. after seeing that, i'm thankful i don't have anything that serious to remedy on mine! will be well worth it when its done, 356 diesel, so cool.

nice split, was it originally a 21-window deluxe or has he made some changes? looks like deluxe beltline and roof but not much else. i love the deluxe roof with the slider *extreme jealousy*.

plans are get the thing welded up and on the road. i have a lot of bodywork ahead of me and we're still trying to get the shop done so i can get to work. its a solid bus but its all relative. its a '66 VW so there is metal work to be done  check out the pic. going stir crazy right now but the plan remains may 20/21 weekend i take it down to the allegany mountains for the first 'field test'   find and resolve any issues and keep going further from home with each trip.

next winter i'll do all the dreamer *** i want to do. this summer i just want to enjoy it. can't wait.

I think I recognize that van. That fellow and a bunch of others used to colonize the former Manore marina in Grand Bend every holiday weekend. I lived in a condo across the street from the old marina and had to listen to their shenanigans... :D They (and many, many others) are the reason I now bought a house 5 miles "inland".... :D

Grand Bend was great fun when I was 20...

So; any update? How's it coming along? :)
Last weekend, my b/f replaced the starter, finished the complete brake system on ours as well as removed the old heater boxes. Then my dad and I washed it and took it for a spin down the road. Man, it was nice to be in a Bus again!  :D

Wow, nice find. I drove one almost identical to it when I worked at a dealership in the late 60s. Kinda dates me, doesn't it?

ya know...if I had unlimited funds Id have more cars then Jay Leno. One (if not more) would be a micro bus.

hey scully. have only spent one day working on it so far... i ended up buying a house so that is my priority right now, renovating. (some of you were there for a GTG when i was renting it).

got some H4s from my old GTI in the bus and all the front lights are working. almost there in the back. most of a camper interior is in... OG westy, 1966. got the passenger side brakes apart, cleaned, adjusted, and back together. they were done just before i bought the bus but i wanted to go over them.. still plan to fit stainless lines. little odds and ends... the big tasks are finishing up electrical (rear lights, horn), getting the windshields and the one remaining side window in, new rims/tires, and repairing the holes in the body so it will pass safety in time for may 20th weekend.

thanks for all the comments guys. i still plan to make this thing a 1.6 or 1.9 TD IDI but the 1500cc gas engine is running too well for me to pull it out right now with so much else to do on the bus. i hope she'll be blastin soot by the end of this coming winter, or next. not in a huge rush.   8)

heh heh. i've always wanted one of these, i found a reasonably clean one, within 8 hrs drive, within my budget if i sold my 1981 VW caddy (which i did), and not only is the bus a great replacement hauler, but a classic camper. :)
Title: Updates?

hey scully.
i went back to school and it turns out yr 2 is friggin tough. been up to my eyeballs in math physics and math so i haven't touched the bus. we've bombed around town in it loaded up with rowdies... cleaned out some junk in the yard... taken camping... even though its still rough around the edges its served me well so far.

i'll get back to that if this advanced applied mechanics course eases up   assignment due tomorrow been kickin my ass all afternoon.....

hope all is well with you scully, i'm sure you'll see the bus out sometime over next summer. state of repair yet to be determined! cheers.
