Post your highway MPG here, also indicate if it is turbo or n/a.

I got 465kms out of 24.59L. %90hwy %10city. So that equals roughly 5.27L/100km, or 47.05mpg.

Not going easy on it, a sustained speed of about 125km/h for most the trip. Or a sustained travel at 3400 rpm's. With a few spurts up to 150km/h, and even some coal when I was passing tdi's :). 1984, with a 1.6 N/A hydraulic motor. Governator mod installed.

If I keep it under 50 mph,  I can get 50 mpg or better,. with a record of 53 mpg, and an average of 45. 1.6 na with over 300k on it. Top speed about 80 mph

i dont have an accurate maximum mpg of my car, but i know what its MINIMUM mpg is..

with a black cloud behind me, i get roughly 37 mpg.

its a boosted n/a in a rabbit with a crappy 4 speed.

I have a 1.6 turbo (was originally a turbo) with 2.5 exhaust and water to air intercooler and a tranny with a .75 fifth.  I drive around 110 -115 km/h (approx 70 mph) with a relatively new engine >10,000 km and I get 50 mpg.  I can do better if I have a tail wind.  Soon to be a vnt-15.  I want to see if this improves it (currently a old T3)

I think its pretty concise most if not all well running 1.6's can achieve 50mpg fairly easily.

Pending on the trans..  About 3 bunnies ago I couldn't get more than about 42 out of the thing, and that required driving really slow.. Never checked which trans it had, but it was a low geared SOB..

Now that the weather has somewhat stabilized I've been toying with different fuel stations and getting some pretty wild results..  Seems that ULSD has been giving me better mileage than LSD..  Sheetz diesel is still the clear winner..  Feels more powerful, runs smoother, constant 46 - 48 mpg....

My last tank was 54. For the last 3 months I have been at 51 mpg. I have an 86 Jetta with the turbo 1.6. I normally cruise at 53 mph on all roads. I use a GPs to figure miles accurately

I have not done it yet, but I know a couple of guys who have swapped TDI trans into rabbits and got 45mpg and better running them hard. TDI has a 3.15 final ratio and .756 fifth

that would be disgusting behind an n/a or even a stock TD.. but would rock behind a souped up engine.

I don't get less than 42 in my 85 td jetta.

That is with acn trans and 75% of driving @ 70mph on freeway, other 25% on slower up/down mountain pass

One thing that I find very interesting is I brought this car home a year ago and as is it was getting close to 50!  Since I have rebuilt all the suspension, tires, alignment and tons of little things like a leaking injection pump and it does this to me, lol!

I am awaiting a valve cover and getting another ip pump rebuilt to start fresh with injectors and will time it up and hopefully be back where I was.

Its amazing when driving allot how much of a difference that little bit makes as far as diesel pump price in cali being a premium right now, and comparing it to an older small gas car to commute in.

it was probably worn out enough that the injectors let the pump have some artificial advance..

I have gotten as high as 54 but averagng 52 mpg. 90% are highway miles 5 percent are dirt and gravel roads.
86 Jetta 1.6 turbo. Nearly all of my miles are with the car loaded. 2 people, 3 big dogs, 5 cats clothes, food, coolers, guns.

Cruising speed is between 51-54 mph and accelerate like a turtle. I get a lot of folks passing me then many times they turn in a 1/4 mile.

I am always looking for a new way to get better mileage. So far my beater vw is the best I have driven.
