Title: I broke threaded area of top t3 wastegate line completely off
Post by: damac on June 27, 2011, 11:47:12 pm
Man that sucked.  Things were going well and I was just installing new hose on the top t3 hardline going to the wastegate.  I was tightning down that flare fitting with a wrench after hand tight and the nut spun, then a hairline crack at the base of the threads and pop, the whole piece with threads came off the wastegate housing!

Just curious if anybody has a clue what I might be able to do if I need to drive this car asap?

I sanded the whole area a bit and cleaned it off and mixed some jbweld and encased the whole area and pinned the piece in place where it sat.  I doubt this is going to work at all, when I tighten the nut I am going to have to be carefull again.  I imagine it will just get oil on it and crack apart.

Thanks for any info!

do not tighten much more than hand tight on the JB weld and it might work. You should be able to drill and tap a size bigger if needed...then just find a new bolt and line.

Sorry I didn't describe it right, the whole boss part of the wastegate casting that has the threads in it broke off!

So I have nothing to screw the line into.  What material is it made out of, I wonder if somebody can weld it for me?

its probably pot metal.. i bet that has something to do with why it broke so easy also..
