Title: Cleaning out my garage - engines for sale
Post by: vwmike on January 26, 2006, 01:38:13 am
So, I need to clean out my garage. It is completely packed right now. One thing I'm thinking of selling is this engine.

It's a 1.6TD that was in a Quantum. Everything under the hood of this car was either painted, powder coated, or polished. I've never seen anyone invest so much time or money into a Quantum. The story goes that the engine ran good but the trans was bad (automatic). This was somebodies baby, but they donated it to a charity (probably got frustrated with it or lost interest). So, I ended up with the engine as a result.

The engine is so clean inside and the oil was still perfectly clean so I'm fairly certain the engine was only run long enough to take it for a spin and realize that the trans was bad.

It even has a crank scraper in it.

I've only taken off the oil pan, but from everything I've seen this engine was fully rebuilt and must have something like 5 miles on it. Someone said the pump was rebuilt too but I can't verify that. Judging from everything else that I saw though I wouldn't be surprised. The engine code comes back to being from a Vanagon but it DOES have oil squirters. Notice the squirter in the lower left hand side of this picture.

The head is ported as well. It has a cam baffle, and the intake manifold is polished. I have the turbo that went with it along with the oil lines but I don't have the exhaust manifold. If anyone needed the downpipe I may be able to get it. The paint is a little scratched up from removal and transport.

The longer I hang onto this engine the harder I try to find a use for it and the truth is I have too many cars and too many projects so I probably ought to let this one go so someone else can enjoy it. It would be ideal for a swap into a dasher/fox, or a Samurai or something. You'll need the transverse manifolds, oil pan, and oil lines if you want to put it in a Rabbit/Golf/Jetta, etc.

I kind of hate to get rid of this engine, but as stated above I also don't really have a use for it right now so I figured I'd throw it out there in case the right offer comes along. Obviously a local sale would be easiest but I could drop it off at a shipping depot or something if it would be required.

I also have a 1.6 shortblock I might take some pictures of. It has 240k on it, but supposedly ran. I beleive it. The bores look to be a bit worn, but it would probably run fine just out of spite. A great engine to rebuild or just use it if you have no great aspirations for it. What's that worth - $150 or something? I also have some Scirocco 1 fenders, doors, hatch, etc that I should part with. There will likely be other stuff so I'll try and update this thread.

I had an offer for $1200 on the TD. I'm considering that one. I figure that's a damn good deal considering what vwdieselparts.com sells them for.

janb - when's a good time to get that short block? I can take some pictures of it if you like.

is SB Hyd or Mech?

I was just inquiring of price, as I didn't see "make offer"  (very slow modem, still loading pictures... 20min later...  (I only get 2 hrs /day for ISP, and live way in the boonies, still need to trade stock, little time for VW's)

What colour and condition are the rocco body parts you're selling? Do you have any rocco interior stuff?

well, that car (the silver 1980) is actually in pretty good shape with the exception of the bashed in quarter panel. The front fenders are straight and I don't think there is any rust. I have the passenger door off the 80, and another pair of doors off of a 77 (gold). I also have a 77 shell (blue)which has a lot of cancer but may be good for odds and ends. I don't really have much of anything for interior though, sorry. It does have a roll bar though.  :D

The 1.6TD is now gone. I still have the 1.6 shortblock if anyone is interested. Make me an offer.

Shortblock is still here....someone make me an offer on it.

I also have a gas 8v solid lifter 288 cam I don't forsee using. It looks like it was used for an extremely short period. There is still paint between the lobes. We think it might be a web cam. .436" lift. TT charges $225 for a similar cam - how about $110 shipped in the US.

I have a set of new 1.9 AAZ pistons in standard bore. There are some scuffs from sitting and shipping and whatnot. Includes rings and pins - OE VW German made Mahle. The best price I've heard is just over $500 US. $250 shipped sounds like a good deal.

send me a message if you're interested - I accept paypal.

It's solid lifter and NA....it will fit if you're using a solid lifter head. Shipping it there would run in the neighborhood of $300.
