Title: Best way to Drain a V2 pump prior to shipping
Post by: orbitald on June 08, 2011, 12:58:35 pm
Can anyone tell me the best way to drain the fuel out of a V2 pump prior to shipment?

I don-t want any problems with UPS.

Thanks,

V2 pump?

are you talking about a bosch VE pump? simply take out the OUT bolt, and dump out the fuel..

Just drain the diesel out and then be sure to plug the inlet and out let, not just to stop leakages into the packaging, but to prevent continuous air changes and moisture ingress.

The film of diesel should last for months internally...

Yes, its off.

Funny story. I bought what I thought was an AAZ from a guy who hot it from Z&S iv NV. Turns out it was an industrial ADE. It never ran quite right and it took me a while to figure out. Swapped pumps to a Jetta pump and it runs great now. Posted the old industrial pump for sale on the Samba and a guy calls me wanting to buy it. They are rebuilding a forklift. It sure drove like a forklift when I first drove it :)

Thanks again for the help,

David

I guess I'm having trouble finding the OUT bolt.

Can someone look at these photos and point out the OUT bolt for me?

In photo #2, the out line is located on the right side (as you look at the photo) (which is actually the back side of the pump)  about midway through the pump.....see the little nipple (on the banjo bolt) sticking out?

I get a fair few pumps sent to me in the post - and they often arrive in a soaking box with a unamused postal worker attached.  :)

I pack as following.

wrap pump round twice in cardboard to cover any metal sticky out bits,
then bag it
then bag it again
wrap it well with bubble wrap
packaged well in a suitably strong and big enough box

Never get any problems.
