Title: What would make a 1.6 just "stop"
Post by: trav1856 on June 03, 2011, 07:48:44 pm
Going to look at a turbo diesel and the guy said that it was just driving along just fine, and then all of a sudden wouldn't run anymore.

What do you think that would be? Fuel cut-off solenoid? Only thing that comes to mind for me.

broken timing belt/slipped cam gear

Clogged air/fuel filters

Depends many things, but how abruptly did it stop and that could rule out some.

didn't say it was a broken timing belt, then again if it was, I suspect I'll have some bent valves at best?

What other noises were associated with the run-stop?

I also thought TB, as i remember being in a buddies car that had a tb pop and there were some unpleasant noises immediately afterwards. Before the cussing.

If it was nothing at all i would look at the fuel solenoid electrics and clogs like mentioned above.
