Title: TDI head porting link
Post by: fspGTD on January 24, 2006, 04:02:32 am
Found an interesting thread on another forum that discusses TDI head ports and porting.  It's got some cool pictures of the TDI intake and exhaust ports molded.  That foam mold stuff is pretty cool.

I've wondered what can be done (and how much) to the swirl lump in the TDI's ports.. that thread is definitely interesting, thanks for the link. I'm looking forward to his results (in a running TDI).

Good link Jake...wondering if this is the same guy that everyone is suggesting on TDI club to have them ported by? Only a few have been done from what I know of...

I'm with malone...it'll be interesting to see the flow data... I'm worried about that low end power...
i'll be cleaning the castings up a bit and port matching like i did on the IDI TD motor I used to run,  but not going crazy... will be gladly staying away from the swirl duct...until i see info that suggests oetherwise...

i just cleaned up the ports,,mild stuff,,gasket match,,,theres alotta meat to be removed in the int. manif.,,,just cleaned up casting scars+flash in the ports,,,,port match the exh side to match gaskets,,put a 45 deg. chamfer on ends of ports,,,,there is alot on the exhaust side to match up to gaskets,,the intake side is workable too,,,,OH, VW'S STOCK VALVE JOBS SUCK REALBAD!!!,,my engine had 80-90k on it,,and valves were pitted,,had to buy all new valves,GUIdes were ok,,but you could see the machine marks in the seats,,iguess whoever was running the cutter that day,had a dull one,,,,anyone else seen this type of stuff?>????,had my buddys at work do a nice 3 angle also,,,,gettin closer,,looks like the install is this weekend,,,wish my dig. camera was here,,,,got no pics,,,i guess ill do some recording on the camcorder

Sounds like a good plan....pics would be awesome.

Actually, my TDI head look great at 126k. No pitting on the valves, etc. The only exception was how much the intake and ports themselves were clogged with soot/carbon... but that is normal for a TDI ...
