Title: Alt belt
Post by: wolfsburged on April 20, 2011, 03:38:09 pm
I'm having some issues getting a V-belt that is not noisy and holds tension. I'm going to try to swap belts this weekend.

I see in Etka that the stock width is called out as 9.5mm. Not sure how big a deal 9.5mm is vs. 10mm.

The belt I have right now is a Contitech 10x643mm.

I called my local vw place and they can get a Contitech 9.5x643mm. Elsewhere I have heard that Contitech belts have issues with loosening, and to try Gates.

All I can find at Gates is PN 7255 which is a 10x663mm. I definitely don't want a longer belt than what I've got, but I don't want to put another Conti belt on if it is going to just keep loosening up.

I finally got it to stop moving for a bit, but now its whiny.

So...

Contitech 9.5x643mm or any suggestions on a PN for another belt that I can get?

Try the 9.5 as it will fit tighter in the groove [isn't that an old Funkadelic song?]. Expect to readjust it a week or so after

I like Goodyear Gatorbacks and Dayco Topcogs the best.
Always get good service from them.
Both are ribbed design on outside.

Never had a squeeler even when ran loose.

Its possible if its been squeeling/slipping a while you could have some excessive wear in the pulleys also!

Just replaced the pulley with a new (used) pulley. I am going to try to run a scotchbrite pad or something on the inside of the pulley faces as well to clean it, and try this 9.5x643 belt and hopefully that will do it.
