Title: 1.6 Non Turbo 8 Valve SOHC Diesel Head
Post by: GregMottin on April 15, 2011, 11:17:50 am
I have a 1.6 Non Turbo 8 Valve SOHC Diesel Head I just posted on Ebay for a starting bid of .99 cents.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110675232153&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT

I have years of experience working as a mechanic, and have worked in machine shops, but I am not  VW or Diesel guy. This head belonged to a friend who used to have a VW Pick up. I wonder if anyone more knowledgeable than myself can help me make sure the description is accurate.

Thanks for your time,
Greg

You spelled "diesel" wrong in the title. If you can change that you should.

Also, you could add that it is a mechanical lifter head to the title.

The cracking between the valves is nothing to worry about (usually). It's only if the cracks are too wide that it can be a problem. I think the Bentley (service manual) specs it at the width of a penny. It's always a good idea to pressure test the head before investing in a rebuild because of this.

Thanks for your responce. Will check the spelling. Can you clarify that this is an early 80's 1.6 head, not a 1.8? I have known my machinist for over 30 years. I trust him completely. He said the crack was no problem.

That is a 1.6 liter head..  There was no 1.8 diesel, and all the 1.9 diesels had hydraulic lifters.. Since it has 12mm head bolts it should fit 1982ish and up
