Title: '99 diesel beetle?

Less than 300,000 kms, standard trans, looks decent in the pictures. I'm going to see it this weekend.
I know the current owner, had the car since new. Wife is getting in bad enough shape she doesn't want to push a clutch anymore, so the car is for sale.  He's putting brakes on it this weekend, wants 3500 for the car.
Comments? On the price and what to look for when I see the car. My wife's golf is getting to be a PITA...

3500$ for a TDI Fully Loaded and in good working shape seems like a good deal

That's what I thought....  Maybe he's not up on how well they're holding their value.
