This guy came to the shop looking for a muffler for his Futura. As soon as I saw this I had to get a pic because its to good to be true that someone could drive this around.
So heres a couple of shots for ya.

I love the combination of spray foam, duct tape and silicone holding the tail light.
-
LMAO!! Must be someone like that in every town.. Just subtract a few buckets and add 14 foot 4x4's hanging out the back window of a late model Malibu and you got Kenny Elsasser..
-
This guy was stuffed into this car. I mean the drivers seat was just big enough for a driver. Thats it. A trash can was used as a wall to hold back the stuff cramed inside.
-
Never mind him.. that your VW in the background??!! ;D ;D
-
Sure. If that what keeps this thread in the general topic. But sorry its not. :-[
-
This is "General"...we don't need no stinkin' topics. ;D ;D
-
YESSSS!!! ;D 8). :-*
-
Brilliant, 3 words: Trailer Park Boys (ie Ricky's s**tmobile)
Love it ;D
-
"Git R dun"........
-
lol, that ones not even that bad josh.. you should see some of the hooptys they drive down here in clatsop county.. duct tape and spray foam are the easiest, and most common rust repairs down here..
you should see the creeper van that parks at fort clatsop, area A..
its a black chevy short van, and it is as crammed as you can get a van.. like josh said, just enough room for a driver..
-
was he trying to trade meth for the muffler or something?? :o

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o
DUDE! ive been there before, knew it looked familiar!!
thats right, you were the one that found me that car..
for living in such a hell hole, he was a SUPER nice guy..
-
oh yeah, totally forgot I sent you out there. ernie is super nice, and he actually got kicked off of that land. He caught the grass on fire one night and......... What ever happened to the audi?
-
the audi is sitting up on the powerline above my house.. just sitting..
probably never going to get rid of it because of how much work i went thru to actually get it here.. lol..
took 6 qts of oil to drive it 450 miles. (couldnt believe it actually made it that far with only a tire blow out, and a shorted out battery cable (totally my fault)
it had about 3 psi of max boost the whole way home.. 55 mph at the top of the hills was rippin.. im probably just gonna pull the engine and get rid of the rest of the car. thats originally what i bought the car for, was the engine. i think it would be fun to drop it in either a porsche, a quattro, or my toyota 4runner..
i doubt i fit in a porsche 924, so thats probably out of the question..
-
Is it actually legal to drive a car around like that over there?
-
barely legal*
-
If I was pbs, I would have been more scared to put it on the lift and get under it. Looks a little unbalanced ;D. Did he end up getting the job done?
-
No idea and don't care.
-
im sure josh kindly told the guy to take a hike.. lol.

Depends... on the state mostly... big surprise, isn't it? ;)
Some states have periodic safety inspections but I don't think Pooregon does. Some are rather strict about vehicle modifications but here in California they really only seem to care about emissions testing, my car is exempt from that, at least for the time being. A police officer could issue you a citation if your car deviates too much from legal standards but actual enforcement of this is both rare and arbitrary around here.

Hell, in Pooregon, you dont even have to run a car thru emissions in most places, only the more urban areas..
where i live requires no testing, so nothing i own even conforms to the emissions standards.. haha.
lol, its kinda funny, atleast once a week i will see a vehicle around here, with no windshield, or body panels missing, or something like what josh posted up..
-
thats mad, over here you'd get raped up the rear for driving around in a car like that. We have an MOT test every year which tests emissions (but if its registered before 1992 they only test emissions on idle and no cat is required) but they test everything safety related. You can't have any rust within 30cm of any suspension parts, or rot on any structural parts of the chassis, and all lights etc. have to work, they can even fail it if it has a crack in the lights!
-
i think i will just keep my roots here then, because like i say, they dont test for SHIZZ around here..

yup. the easiest way to get around that down here (because jackson county and portland are the only emission testers) is to sign your car off to a friend who has residence in the next county, have them register it and sign it back over to you. ;D Everyone does it, the dmv knows but they can't do shizz about it. I just tell them I lost it in a lien and I got it back.......with fresh registration :P Cost is in the title fee, but that's easier to deal with than an unregistered vehicle. And lastly, I heard california has a MUCH bigger budget problem than oregon. Simple doesn't necessarily mean poor....... ;D
-
PA is easy, everybody knows somebody that'll put a sticker on for $20 cash... ;D
-
In the sticks here in Ohio there is no such thing as e check. Up North there is in like Akron. The only thing that our muffler shop WON'T do is hollow out a catalytic converter. The fine is 10,000, they would do it for more than that. BUT they will give free advice on how to run a sawzall :D

basically the same here..
no shops will remove them, but some shops will basically let you rent a bay for an hour or so, and show you how to do it right..
-
a catta what?
-
a catta what?
Those things you take off your car for better mileage and performance, then take them to the scrapper and get mad cash..

-
Hahahah.. I ain't no tweaker, just a drunk.. ;D The $150 I got for the one of the Caprice was good for one heck of a bender....

never would call you a tweaker brett ;). thats just what happens all the time out here. and I bet i'm drunker than you are ;D. 150 bucks for a cat.......seriously?

I took 2 GM cats to scrap a month ago, and about fell over when he told me $300.. :o Apparently the larger GM cats, and a lot of import cats have a high platinum content.. The after market cats are only bringing about $20 or so.. The last few I took only brought $128 a pop.. He was telling me the price dropped 15% after the shake rattle and roll in Japan...
This wasn't a run of the mill scrap yard either.. This guy specializes in scrap auto parts.. Core engines diffs, and trannies $16/100lbs.. Alternators, starters, various dc motors, and ac compressors $0.50/lb.. Carburetors, turbos, and electronic modules vary from next to nothing up to $50 or so pending what exactly you got.. The catch is that most of the stuff has to e fairly in tact.. No headless engines! :P
