k when the money presents itself to me i am going to do my exhaust system. Piping will be 2.5inch from the turbo back. Going into this magnaflow muffler. Now my only other decision is do i just put a nice polished tip on it just like stock look, or get a a dual DTM tip. Only problem is magnaflow doesn't seem to have one with a 2.5ich inlet. what you guys think. Gonna sound nice or what?
The muffler i wish to get.

why not just put a straight pipe? that would sound even better
the turbo is considered a muffling device.. just look at those big rigs :) save your money
-
gotcha, stright pipe from turbo back? There is no cat right? Waht about a resonator, should i still have one of those?
-
i found 2.5" exhausts REALLY loud when the wastegate is open. (most of the time while cruising) I put a Dynomax superturbo muffler on, and it's much better, but still resonates in the cabin a fair amount. solution: disconnect the wastegate! hehehehe
-
I run a flowmaster on my 2.5" TT setup... was so nice, at idle you could just sit and hear the turbo spool ...
I tried a straight through setup initally, but it was a bit loud for my tastes and the inspection station didn't like it...

I have a 2.5" Flowmaster as well. I got it off E-Bay for a great price. With the 2.5 down pipe and complete system it really woke up the 1.6TD. Now to get a bigger turbo. The K14 spools up super quick but with only 15psi I feel I'm loosing out in potential power.
-
so what should i still use the magnaflow muffler?
-
I suggest a downturned tip, that points at the ground.
This will help keep soot off the back of your car.
I've got a 2.5" exhaust, with a resonator and a straight through Mara sport muffler ... and it's still kinda loud going down the highway.
-
right on thanks, ya i should still sue the magnaflow muffler and get a tip that is similar to that on a mk4 tdi, dual or single?
-
I'd say it's personal preference there big guy. :D
-
i ahte making decisions, i want my car to be nice so everyones opinion is needed. As long as everyone can list the good choices it makes easier for me cause then i pick the best of the best choices :D

If you're not racing it, and you appreciate a quieter vehicle, sounds like Rat407 & RabbitGTDguy are saying it's a nice combo with the 2.5" Magnaflow.
OTOH if you have to keep up the noise wars with the Hondas & their 5" fart can S/S tips, well, heck, you'd have to run a straight pipe with a bling dual 3" tip(l.e.d. lighting optional!).
Will be making a similar choice this summer with a new diesel engine for my VW. I really like long road trips and know how the noise of a straight-through system can lose its novelty after just a few hundred miles. I'll opt for a free-flowing, but slightly muffled 2.5" system.
Only actually received 1 ticket for a noisy exhaust system, but I don't like the way loud cars attract the law enforcement personnel. Distracts them away from more important work! lol
Your call.

NO DTM tip....unless you drive a MkIII
they're not for MkI/II (a dual round or oval will look much nicer) BUT... thats just my opinon :P
-
should i have a resonator in there somewhere to, i like long road trips too, and im going to go with the 2.5 inch magnaflow muffler. i dont need the noise, just want my engine to breath easier.
-
depends what you can put up with. i've run a straight pipe with no muffler/resonator for almost 2 yrs now... its too loud but it doesn't really bother me. if you are going on long road trips, then decide if that is your priority or not and if you want the car to be really quiet for that purpose.
for tip, just a raw 2.5" pipe or downturn it.
"i found 2.5" exhausts REALLY loud when the wastegate is open."
sissy

okay ,well so as long as it helps the engines airflow ill get 2.5inch piping and the magnaflow muffler with a down turned tip, that is my plan, should still sound nice and plus it'll be better for the engine to have 2.5 inch exhaust piping. Im mainly for performance but id to not be the loudest thing in town. I come home late sometimes and dont need the neighbourhood screaming at me :P
-
as long as you stay off the go pedal it will be quiet like that. have fun :)
-
Have a cutaway box, it's like a bypass between straight pipe and muffler.
I had a link but can't remember the site, but it's like a big valve, or plate like a door, you can adjust it from inside the car. If your going to change your entire exhaust system to 2.5" pipe, you might as well be able to switch between nice and rice.

does anyone have a soundfile or a video from such a loud diesel?
-
i concur. Wanna know what it sounds like.
