Title: Oil cooler ( warmer ) 90 IDI
Post by: cervelorod on March 10, 2011, 08:39:47 am
I recently purchased the stock oil cooler ( warmer ) for my IDI.  Can someone snap a good pic of yours so I can see how the hoses run.

Thanks,
Rod

FWIW, the hose connections point right at the water pump.

the front nipple hooks into the hose that enters the center of the water pump..

the rear nipple connects into the top port.. the one that runs from the WP to the water neck on the front of the head..

I had a bit of a question about this actually.

I have a 1600TD with one already hooked up and its linked into the head to water pump circuit, so I wondered if you didnt have the right hoses on the block, would it also be possible to just run it in the heating system loop after the heater matrix? as that goes back to the same point on the pump?

Bugsy - what year / model is yours on?  I want to order the official hoses but am having trouble finding the right ones online.  The parts guys want model and year to begin with...  The joy of living 90 miles from nowhere....

every single TD, and lots of higher end gassers 8v's, all 16v's

you need the diesel specific hose from the wp-to-front water neck

if i were you tho, i would use the coolant distribution tubing off a mk2 gasser engine, it has 2 separate hoses to connect the oil cooler instead of one hard to get hose..

037122058

Silicone one piece design of course

not like that three piece china crap with the plastic center line that will fail

the original meyle german were one piece epdm rubber
to cut cost they went to the three piece hose with a plastic t

Even my N/A 1.6D has one!

My 1600TD was a 1987 Golf CL.

Anyone know what the answer is to my post earler in this thread about linking it into the heating loop instead of the normal one?

Well it was an engine from a pickup then it was in a vanagon. its apparently a 1983 lump. The only thing I can guess is its either had one fitted because of being in a vanagon, or at some stage despite the engine numbers its actually been remanufactured to TD spec, but its got an NA pump, unless it was an eco diesel that some gues on here have talked about. Or maybe a european thing?

I know I havent seen any other D engines with it as standard.

So basically what I was thinking, hose comes out end of head, goes into the heater matrix, comes out the other side of the heater matrix then down through a pipe to the oil cooler then from the cooler to the pump. normally I know what you mean there is a metal pipe that runs all the way down to the water pump with a short rubber hose.

there isnt enough flow thru the oil cooler. not all the coolant flow goes thru it either.. if you hooked it up to the heater lines, i dont think your heater would work that good anymore..
