Title: Alternator Belt size for an 84 Rabbit with A/C?
Post by: RustyRabbit on January 12, 2006, 09:51:56 pm
I don't think the Rabbit I just bought has the right sized belt in it because I can't get the sucker tight! I have the alternator pulled as far as it will go on the track and now it is up against the timing belt cover (with about 3/4 of an inch of slack in the belt when I push down on it in the middle).

Any thoughts?

Thanks :!:

Etka shows 9.5 x 643mm for the belt that runs from the ac compressor to the alternator. Shouldn't you be pulling the alternator away from the timing belt cover to tighten it?

When I pull the alternator away from the timing belt it gets looser.  I'll try it again and check that belt size. Thanks.

yeah I had a similar problem, I just took my belt that was on there to the local parts store (Car Quest) , and asked them if I could have the belt the next size down. The circumfrence on the new belt was approx an inch smaller than the circumfrence on the old one...

Did you also snip your A/C compressor belt, or did you keep that one on?

Getting that belt off the right way, by loosening the pullies seems like a pain in the ass.

Do you remember what size the smaller belt was?

Gracias.
