Title: Desireable transmission
Post by: dodger21 on February 26, 2011, 10:41:02 am
So I have a parts car that came with a AOP code transmission.

My 85 I am driving has a ACH transmission.

Which is better? I notice the 3rd and 4th gears are different. I like a bit of peppy-ness so is the ACH better in that regard?

Which ever one I keep, the other is for sale.

Well, the ACH is in the current car and it runs just fine. I don't know if I want to sell the other because I like having extra parts "just in case". Mr Murphy is likely to visit if I sell the other one...

Which has a bigger input shaft and axles? I assume the AOP as it's from a later car.

The AOP and ACH both have 90mm flanges. As for input shaft size, they should be the same but I am no expert by any means.

I believe only 16v trans' had bigger input shafts. It's a negligible difference as far as strength though.

If you keep the other transmission, do yourself a favor and drain the oil in it, refill it, and store it in as dry a place as possible.
Then when Mr. Murphy comes to call, you will have a strong finger to show him.

last time i stored a trans I replaced the fluid too. Then I wrapped it in an industrial garbage bag, sucked all the air out, and taped it shut. Moisture Proof.. Good for moisture prone areas..
