Been staying in banff parking the car in a heated parade. Went to canmore to meet some friends.
4 hours pass and its -20c ran the glow plugs for 20 seconds. Started ran for a couple seconds then dies. When I turn the key again nothing happens.
This happened before in abbotsford so I replaced the fuel filter and lines. Can anyone near by help or give me some advice? Was supposed to drive home 800 km tomorrow :(
Advice anything? I plugged in the block heater for about 60 minutes and exactly the same starting condition happened. Starts, runs dies then no start.
Coming back in the morning hopefully it has warmed up but I will check here for advice.
Thanks guys
Eddy

Is it smoking at all when you crank?? Kinda sounds like you aren't getting fuel.. Do you have another filter on hand??? Since it's below freezing maybe you have some water issues...

The filter was changed like 2 weeks ago though? Two full tanks of diesel later... plus additive

I've had a brand new filter in the truck freeze up. Bad fuel is common. If you can get a heater in the engine bay, point it at the filter and try draining it. PLease tell me you didn't buy fuel in revelstoke. The shell fuel left us stranded in Salmon arm.

I got shell diesel.... where should i get it instead?

You mean it doesn't even crank or just doesn't start? You could get someone to pull you and start it like that if you're really stuck.

Success! You guys nailed the frozen filter. The "regular" diesel pump was frozen and out of order. I had to get some kind of supreme diesel... it started angrily from the jerry can.
Thanks so much for the advice guys!

Esso, and also bring a jerry can with diesel from anywhere but Revelstoke.

Or, out here, Husky and Canadian Tire also have good fuel.

I think when i start driving diesels again, (been in a gasser since about mid-September) that for the 'winter package' I will be carrying a fresh fuel filter in my tank. Along with a jerry can of fresh fuel w/stabilizer and additives in it, if I am traveling out of town where I know good diesel is pumped.

An extra fuel filter ranks up there with a spare tire.. AS long as you have it, you'll never need it.. I've always carried a spare with me.. The one time I used that spare during routine maintenance and didn't get around to grabbing another to carry with... Wasn't even a week later I got a crap tank of fuel and was sitting.... >:(
