Title: MK1 Jetta Dash Install To MK1 Caddy
Post by: GEE-BEE on January 28, 2011, 08:37:17 pm
After cleaning out the a/c assy and duct's , I also added all new silicone foam on the vent door's
installing new blower fan assy and heater core assy ( 200.00 parts )
red silicone hose from heater to firewall

The shop did not have to use the jetta dash bracket's

Trevor ( member  )did a fine job on the cluster and installed the blue LED's and white meister gauge faces
All functions work !!!

The fan blower is much stronger and there is no rattles in this dash assy now that there dymat insulation and silicone foam on all attaching surfaces

Next will be a new Blaupunkt Stereo with DVD /CD function with  pop up dvd screen to finish

same foam you sent me? Do you have pics of how it went on. I think I put too much on mine, but can't pull the dash until summer time to find out. I still have little flow.

I will send some pic's, I had a shop do the install while I went to japan and two islands in the Philipines
Boracay and Palawan

Water was  warm 78 and air temp was around 87

Great food and diving

For questions please contct Brad at Mesa West ( Costa Mesa Calif.)
His email is :[email protected]
( Ref: Dash Install )

The wiring was a problem as my truck was a gas and I had two get a MK1 diesel jetta cluster and add a tach, all functions work perfect now in the cluster.
If i did it again , I would do a diesel harness swap

You mean if you had someone else do it again.   ;)

I was just saying that a diesel harness would have been much easier to deal with, I had to install a Bosch universal glow plug kit also and delete alot of wiring for this install.

gas to diesel

GEE-BEE, if you don't mind, what did you pay in shipping for the carpet kit and who did you use for shipping?

There carpet kits and peices of kits are by far the best fitting and the colors match OEM carpets.

I'm interested in the Scirocco rear parcel shelf carpet set, Biscuit color. I think they want $80 just for that. The last I time I contacted them via email, they make every order to order, so it would be a while. They also would'nt tell me who they use for shipping. Don't know why.

Aaron at Bleached Bora can get great shipping rates, but they won't use anyone but who they choose.
Let me know.

Thanks, Josh

They were special order TMI for a Cabby, 3 hole door handle type with mirror hole

I added the early bug chrome door surround

cabby door pull's

cabby speaker grill's with Fogul speakers ( 300.00 )

Window crank's from rabbitparts.com

Nice fit & finish..

I found a new Blapunkt Chicago stereo with FM/CD/DVD with pop up screen , retails for 1100.00 new in the box for 200.00

That really looks great GB !
Where did you find such a nice dash ? lol
The whole interior is dynamite !

The scrabbage/ruffle under the glovebox (in close up photo) wasn't like that when it went into the box. Might just need an altering adjustment there. idunno

So the Rabbit dash support brackets were a strait fit ?
I noticed you stated they didn't need to use the Jetta brackets.
That would be a good thing to know for future refs.

Also for future refs - almost EVERY (maybe ALL) connectors/plug-ins are different from rabbit-vs.-jetta. You'll definitely want the entire fusebox and wiring harness from jetta if you plan this swap.

And ... rabbit cluster won't work in jetta dash either.
Basically, you'll need EVERYTHING from donor car.
Including ductwork etc...

GB got Everything EXCEPT wiring harness from me.
Figured he had other plans for that area.

I have another MK1 Jetta with complete nice (black) dash conversion (a/c). Missing driver side lower dash plastic pocket tho.

Factory diesel - all wiring intact - including engine harness too.
However much someone needs - its all there.
Also the 5spd console too.

Just mentioning in case anyone else has the itch to switch.

Correct, just modified the stock dash bracket's

dash is very quiet, it's clean now with a elbow grease

Thanx again Baron !

Trevor did the cluster for me with a Meister gauge decal and tach, so just the shop had to splice the gas harnedd to the diesel cluster harness

didnt install the a/c condenser, and the center vents work perfect

I did install: new blower fan, heater core, new side vents from MK1Autohaus

Truck is going to stereo shop and install 16V antenna and CD/DVD Blaupunkt Stereo with pop up screen

Iam still waiting on my Odyssey dual horizontial battery mount for under the bed
