Hi, my lady friend recently purchased a 92' eco diesel jetta that has a mechanical lifter td engine in it. The alternator belt broke but the eco belt is too short and I don't know what the engine came out of and what the accessory brackets came from. I am thinking it is out of an 84' jetta not sure. The PO didn't swap the engine in so he doesn't know what it came out of. suggestions?

Piece of string/rope wrap it around the belt system end to end. Take it off and measure it, take that measurement to your local parts store. Their belts should be listed by size me thinks.

Make sure that your alternator is somewhere in the middle of it's adjustment when you measure so that you have some play room for tensioning. They're usually an "A" or 3L series belt.

Yea do this. And all you need to know also if how many groove's are in the serp belt, 4,5,6 ect. For the most part they are measured in inches, there is half inch sizes in between so you can get it perfect.

sweet, thanks guys. It's not a serp setup and I was some what concerned with getting the correct profile of "V" belt.
