I know that Dashers are on the B1 platform but besides the engine being "inline" what are the differences between a A1 Rabbit and a B1 Dasher?
Are the suspension parts the same?
Could an 1.6td be installed into a Dasher if you swapped out the engine mount brackets and made a custom downpipe?
Thanks!

Dashers are huge compared to mk1 golfs/rabbits. Suspension is of very similar design but I don't think there are a lot of interchangeable parts though I'm by no means intimately familiar with dashers.
Inline tds and suitable transmissions came in quantums here.

I mean a TD out of an MK1
-
Mk1, mk2, same motors for the most part, all certainly interchangeable.
-
I guess the hard part would be a custom downpipe for the turbo.
-
If I'm not mistaken all vw 4cyl blocks are the same.. From the 1.5D to the 2.O 16v so it would fit the mounts, and the transmission.. You'd have to get creative with the exhaust and intake piping, fuel lines, coolant lines maybe, nothing too complicated though.. All the mounts should swap right over.
-
What about interior stuff like door cards and dash?
-
There has been people to fit the A3 stuff in to A1 bodies in terms of dashes.. But I mean even the A1-A2 interiors are different.. I can only assume A1 and B1 to be way different.. But idunno for sure
-
B3 Audi 80 1,6TD downpipe should fit in. You still need custom exhaust pipe.
-
i doubt you are gonna take many rabbit parts and put them on your dasher.. the fox is more closely related to the dasher than a rabbit or a golf/jetta..
-
Hmmmmm fox interior..........

a buddy of mine also has a 70s ford F250 with a screamin Jimmy, it has a 4-53t and a clark fork lift transmission, and some sort of divorce t-case.. goes about 80 mph on the bolts..

I'm unsure what this has to do with this thread? Lol

Haha, I'm on my phone.. Thought either the server took a dump, or you did some blow.. Lmao no worries, my bad

nah, no blow for me.. been clean for longer than i can remember now. over 4 years..

While many small parts (besides the motor) are the same, the Dasher is a completely different car than a Rabbit. I would be looking for TD Quantum/Audi 4000 TD parts for this conversion if I was going to try it (which I might, as I have an 81 Dasher out back!)
-
yea, rabbits are nowheres close to the same as a dasher..
like i say, the dashers closest relative woule be an Audi Fox, VW quantum, or audi 4000. i think the VW Fox is too much different from the dashers.
A platform cars are way different from B platform cars.

I live in california and so an audi fox or 4000 is quite the rare bird.

They're pretty rare everywhere. I live in Canada, where Dashers were never sold. Mine was imported some years ago.

the 4k's are reasonably common but none of them out here, I am also from California, are td. This does have my thinking about a 4kqtd. I know this has been discussed but I can never remember information about bellhousings etc. do the four cylinder and five cylinder inline motors share the same bellhousings?
-
I do not believe that the five banger shares the four banger bellhousing.
but an adapter plate is not that hard
-
audi 4KQ still had a 5 banger. and like owen mentioned, the bell patterns are WAY different.
a 2.0 5 cyl TD would be pretty ***in in a 4KQ tho!
i need a 4000quattro! already got the 5 cyl.
