Title: Using non-VW LDA top on a AAZ pump without a LDA?
Post by: TITan on January 18, 2011, 07:33:49 pm
Hi!

I'm not even finished with a AAZ swap into a Vanagon and I'm already thinking about making it faster  ;D

The problem is the fuel pump which has a empty LDA housing unfortunately:

VW TD pump's seem to be a rare thing here. Has anybody put a LDA top from a different car on to a AAZ pump? My logic tells me that since you can swap a VW LDA top on to a NA pump and VW pumps are quite similar with most BMW, Peugeot... pump it should be doable? Anybody tried it? Or am I better off looking for a VW TD pump?

from what I understand you can use any VE Lda off of early cummins etc. you might need the governor linkage as well.

why not see if the lda guts fit instead of swaping the entire top of the pump? A vw dealer or diesel shop might be able to supply the pump parts diaphram star wheel pin etc.

I don't think ther's anything other than the casting and fuel return from a LDA top. No pin to slide on the boost pin or anything.

We didn't get cummins diesels here in europe (at least not in big enought numbers for them to provide cheep parts  ;D ).
