Title: changing headgasket
Post by: gribur on January 02, 2011, 04:48:15 pm
just wondering if it is a good idea on a car you have just got to change the headgasket? also, does the AAZ have any issues with headgaskets and if so what headgasket would you go with, something a little better quality then oem to be safe? what about head bolts/studs?

sorry bout that.  The thought just came to my head and i typed, im silly like that sometimes.  I was just refering to a maintenance item, not replacing due to any troubles.  I will give it a search.

No worries ;) Its just that there is so much information regarding the AAZ HG that its best to search first ;) I would not replace it unless you are going to run high boost or if there is already an existing problem with the HG.

178,000 miles is my record, but I cannot say I enjoy doing it much.

ive only done one vw head gasket in my life.. come to find out a new head gasket wouldnt fix that motor no matter what..

the engine was addicted to crack.. 7 head bolt holes had cracks, and there was cracks all over the deck coming from the bolt holes.

needless to say, replacing that head gasket never fixed that engine.. its sitting in the back of my shop, complete with OVER SIZE 1.5 pistons..
