Title: Techtonic downpipe?
Post by: gribur on January 02, 2011, 03:28:24 pm
I was just wondering how good these guys are and also is there anyone in Canada that can do the same work, saving me customs and shipping hassles.  I have an mk3 golf AAZ with KKK14.  I dont need a cat where I am located and would rather just run a catless 2.5" system straight through. What are the implecations of deleting the cat from this engine?  I am just assuming it will breathe better, but I am just not sure if its design intentions were strictly omissions or if it would play some other role as well.
thank you guys

I have a complete S/S system, DP is a TT S/S 2.5 with a KO3 turbo

I wish I would of ceramic coated it at the outlet to the bottom , it's hard to stay clean

Well worth the money...

Gee Bee, did you have TT make that DP one off? I only see 2.25" DPs on their site for MKII and MKIII.

good question, also if it was a one off, did it cost extra?  how much more would the coating have been?

I just called and spoke with Josh

300.00 for DP in 2.5

40.00 is what the tail pipe section cost for ceramic coating, I have since cut it off so it goes straight out the back with a s/s 30 degree downward tip

315.00 for the 2.5 alloy exhaust, I used this as a mockup for a local tube bender to make me a s/s , since it was not offered in s/s by TT

I did supply TT both manifold's and turbo's for fitment ( 1.9 AAZ )

Is this all in reference to your truck or another car?

Oh and thanks much for making the silicone hoses for vanagons! I have 2.90 sets now and cant wait to get the gasser turbo 2wd on the road ;)

If you have access to a welder and an angle grinder (or hack saw if you are skilled!) you can make your own downpipe for under $150 and the rest of the exhaust for even less (depending on how fancy you want to be)

My down pipe is just a 180 degree bend (cut appropriately) with an extra 90 degree bend to shoot it under the car and of course the appropriate flange for your turbo outlet. I bought the pipe and flange at the local autoparts store (Lordco). Not super fancy pants but it fit my budget.

This is for a Garett T3 on an AAZ in a mk2 jetta.
