Title: Nitrous question
Post by: Powered by Spearco on December 19, 2010, 10:03:06 pm
Can I use the stock full throttle switch to activate the NOS solinoid?

I'd rather not make any modifications to the pump throttle arm.

dont see why not, just use it to trigger a relay.

P.S.
you doing nitrous too?
seems these things happen all at once.

Yep sure am.
I got a nearly new Dyno tune kit with a full 10lb bottle for $150. I want to run a two stage system though.

Full trottle activated 35 shot and for the second stage use a Hobbs swt. to actvate at 10 psi of boost, maybe a 50 shot.

Going to run the full throttle one first to see the results.

I don't think I'll set it up yet during the winter months though.

I'd rather not make any modifications to the pump throttle arm.

The full throttle switch on my injection pump cut power at wot and since I've only wired relays to trigger with power I went with the micro switch and bracket that came in my dyno tune kit.
No need to modify the pump arm, just 1 bolt through the throttle cable bracket.

thats cool, I probably wont get mine setup until spring either.

I am going to trigger mine by EGT(with my Auber gauge) and probably run a small jet(15-20 shot) not for power so much as to lower EGT(I will be burning plenty of fuel with the super/turbocharger)

good luck, and keep us posted!

Thanks for the pic of the switch location. Looks really easy.

Where did you mount your solenoids?

I plan on mounting the tank back under by the fuel tank.

Do keep updating your NOS build though.

Here's where I mounted the solenoid, just barely visible in the top right corner with the line going the spray nozzle in the intake. Its right above the brake booster

What car/truck are you setting this up on? Might be a pain to turn the bottle on & off if you hide it too good, unless you have a remote bottle opener.

heres a shot of my NOS setup on my n/a engine.. used the shot more to show where the solenoid was located.

whats a good use for the fuel solenoid? can we run propane with nos thru the same nozzle?

nos goes in where its supposed to, but instead of gasoline going in the other side of the nozzle, what about propane?

Meth

problem with running meth through there is that it wont atomize properly, meth really needs a special nozzle to atomize properly.

I plan to get the remote opener, but for now, I'll just reach under and turn on.

I also want to run water meth, but that will have to wait till the track.

I am going to run water/meth too, but it is a complete and separate system with its own pump/nozzles.

as for the nitrous bottle location, you don't just want it in a handy place for turning on, but also for removal for filling. you will have to take it out lots to fill it back up.

also, keeping it inside is a good thing as underneath the car would put it in danger of being hit with rocks etc...
not that it will burst from a big rock, but it could, and that would be very bad!

No worry about rocks as the truck with the engine and all the good stuff would never be driven in gravel or the such.
Ok, maybe the dump  ;D. I would not drive around with the bottle mounted for day to day driving, just the track.

The whole pwr. plant will be going into the '80 Scirocco. Then I'll have room for the water meth.

Here is the setup I bought.

I have two NOS solinoids and a fuel one that came with the kit plus the wet nozzle. I bought the two fogger nozzles.

Are you spraying through the stock air filter, or do you have one on your intake tube?

I don't know much about propane injection, but the fuel solenoids were made for low pressure, not even close to nitrous pressure.
Is that why you mounted the wet side to your car, or just to keep the wet side nozzle blocked off?

Looks good man, a heck of a deal for $150. Can't wait to see how the 2 stage setup works.

yea, at that time it was spraying thru the air filter. i had a clean K&N in there tho.. and now that i think about it, it was probably a bad spot for the nozzle, but it wasnt like that for long.

and yes, i do have the wet side on there just because its there.. its not functional at all. just the nos. the fuel line is just zip tied to the injection pump feed..
