Title: Source For Starter Motor Brushes & Bushings?

Does anyone know of a source for the carbon brushes and bronze bushings

for Bosch Starters? Preferrably in Canada.

I have both the old, larger starter, (can't make out the series #)

found on earlier (1985/86) golfs as well as

a couple of the later (1991/2), smaller diameter starters.

All I can find are Chinese & Indian websites who, apparently

expect me to buy in bulk.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

arizona autohaus has the bushings for .47 each...the ones that go into the trans. My local welding shop that builds alts could get your brushes, maybe you have one as well?

I can get the front bushing here
for about .99 (the one in the trans bellhousing).

I was wondering about the one at the back
of the starter, inside the cover plate.

Mostly, though, I was looking for a source for
the carbon brushes. Off-the-shelf, as it were.

Having found a "DIY StarterOverhaul" on VW Vortex,
I thought that might keep me occupied during the
long, boring winter months.

Perhaps I should do as you suggest and check out
either a welding shop or an auto-electric rebuilder.

So long as they don't insist on re-building the starters
themselves, which would , somewhat defeat the purpose.

If you run into trouble I could get my guy to sell me the stuff and ship it. Let me know if you can't find it.

I have a 02 ALH starter, brushes and plate are melted. Don't know anything about the starter, but looks aokay other than the brush plate. Any place cheap for these?
