A while back Jake and I did a bit of testing regarding nozzle lift and whatnot. I have been continuing this research and have found some rather interesting results. I have ordered dozens of different nozzles in order to do this. I thought I would at least share the interesting characteristics of a nozzle I came across.

That is a GTD nozzle on the right for comparison. The orifice at the end of the nozzle is approximately 2mm in diameter wheeras the GTD (and most nozzles for that matter) has an orifice with a diameter of approximately 1mm. Lift is also higher. Both of these have a 0 spray angle.

To be honest, sharing the part number with you guys really would do you no good. This is an obscure nozzle that you cannot buy in the US. I posted it mainly because I thought it was interesting and I will be testing them myself as soon as I receive a full set. If everything works out well I will make them available at a very competetive price. So, please be patient as it will work out for the best. :)

If the new nozzle has already been tested in a TD I'm sure he'd post his findings... I suggest just waiting patiently until more information is available.
I've been needing better fueling solution so I'm happy to see this thread. Now I know what to wait for.
Smog and other vendors won't disclose where they buy their aftermarket nozzles from, either. No need to rag on this guy.

Everyone want's someone else to do all the research work and then just give them the fruit of their labor. I wish Coca-Cola would just give me their receipe instead of charging me for their product. Argg!!! :lol:
I think this is great. I'ts called free market enterprise and it's what powers the world.
On the other hand this is a free forum and most don't like to be advertized to on it. If advertising is allowed there will be nothing but spam here before ya know it. It's a fine gray line.

forums are made for sharing info. especially car forums, I purchased GTD nozzles from him last night.. it's not like I wouldn't buy them through him. It just sounded like he had alittle more info
but hey if you want to pay somebody to find something out go right ahead, I will either test stuff myself (and posts results) or let somebody do the work.
I do that on all the forums I am part of...

Sorry if anyone took offense to this. I was excited about my finding and thought I'd share as I thought some of you might be interested. If you guys want it moved or deleted then that is fine with me.
I'm not trying to hold anything over anyones head. I'm trying to better understand and disect all of what is out there in search of components to improve the performance of our engines. I'm grateful for every bit of information I have gotten off of this board and I have given out quite a bit of infomation that I have researched myself. Please forgive my reservations in giving out everything I know. In the end (read - months not years) you will all benefit from my research with a simple "yay" or "nay" and a "here you go".
If you still hate me for this then I'm sorry and I'll go sit in the corner by myself. :cry:

Looking on the plus side; vwmike may offer CNC machined timing covers to extend the timing advance in injection pumps. I bet the majority of the people here has not gone through the hassle of CNCing their own cover just for their IP pump, and risking the testing process. Mass producing it and selling it makes it worthwhile for everyone. With the cover we are another step forward to matching to a certain vendor's pump performance for less money! The timing cover is no secret either.. we should also be thankful that vwmike is offering many other parts for our convenience.
In some way the vendors are contributing to the IDI community.
So what other secret mods are out there? Nozzles... what else?
On this site we have more members now than before, increasing the potential for business. The "secret" mods or commercial posts are just an addition to these forums, like it or not. From what I can see, it has not affected the rate of DIY guys sharing their free experiences. It may even encourage DIY guys to discuss / reverse engineer / analyze the new modifications introduced by vendors.
The archives of this forum and the old hostboard has already covered almost everything in regards to regular IDI maintenance. It's nice to see something new for IDIs, either from the DIY guys or motivated vendors.
If you don't like commercial threads containing exclusive information, don't click on them.

Hmm, I have seen nozzles very close to that... infact I have 8 of them. I doubt they are the same but look similar. My issue with the ones I have is that they smoked like a frieght train at idle. You or Jake may have found a soultion to this, two spring injector bodies from a 1.9... ect.
Just because everybody is uppity tonight the nozzles I played with were out of a Chev 6.5TD I think '95 and newer. They are differnt from the 6.2 and the earlier 6.5TD's I ran them both at stock breaking pressure which as I recall was like 130bar, and at increased breaking pressure of 160bar. They definatly ran better and smoked less at 160bar, but I probably could have used more static advance. It was at 1.05mm for both tests, I probably should have tried one more time at 160bar with like 1.15mm or so.
I hope yours work out better then some of my tests. If so I know of a couple TD's on this board that would be good test candidates. Malone's Franken motor, and Andy2's Twin's. I would have thrown my name in the hat but I kinda wrecked my car :roll:
I think I will just stay out of the vendor secrets vs board knowledge debate tonight. :wink:

vwmike, nothing against you or anyone here. i just think that threads about a marketable product, espically one where no oem pt# is given, should go in the vendor section. you are looking to sell these nozzles and not give them away for free, right?
for example, 935 racer has advertised that he has lightweight flywheels in the vendor section. i have one of those on order right now.
maybe a mod could move this thread to the vensor section. its no big deal, lets not all blow this out of context here, folks.

I wasn't posting this here to cause any sort of debate. I was hoping I'd get some technical responses and we could discuss nozzle design a bit as I know some of you have tried some other nozzles and whatnot.

Not to continue the debate, but just to add somthing else of intrest. Vwmike I think you are correct that you shouldn't post the part number no matter how obscure it may be, it would be bad for business. I know that there are several members of this board that are very well conected all over the world. :wink:
With that being said, I'm still intrested to see what it came out of. :P
Okay onto nozzle tech. Do you have any 6.5L Chev TD Nozzles to compare that too? Also you said that you have been testing and looking at alot of differnt nozzles could you post up pics of comparisons of those nozzles with what they came out of versus "nozzle X" as well as the lift spec's of both? I have a feeling adding a little more tech to this would lead this away from a "vendor baiting" and more into a tech post.

Well, as a start I'll give you some answers pertinent to VW nozzles.
The stock early 1.6/1.6 TD (DN0SD293) nozzles are not the hot tip for performance with .7mm lift. They got a little better with the DN0SD293 (later hydraulic lifter nozzle) at .72mm lift.
You'll find that a lot of nozzles fall into this general area. Some are better, some are worse. GTD nozzles are definitely a step up at .81mm and the 1.9TD nozzles aren't far behind at .8mm but the pintle is where you see the major difference.

Notice the distinct difference in the shape of the pintle. This will mean there is additional fuel at the tip of the injector resulting in fuel being delivered more quickly and reducing the injection interval. I've come across pintle lift up to about 1mm.

I may be wrong on this, but as I recall from threads of old. People have experimneted with shiming the pintle for more lift. This was back before we had acsess to GTD nozzles. What I recall with this though is that they could get between .2mm and .5mm extra lift! This leads me to believe that the lift is not nearly as important as the size and shape of the nozzle as the lift can be modified.

On the Chevy nozzles - I do not have them to test. Would you happen to have any pictures of them? I'm curious to see what the pintle looks like as well as what the diameter is of the orifice.

I'm doing this because I am interested and I want to know as much as the rest of you. But, for me to continue to do this I have to look out for my own best interests. If that is so difficult for you to see then I'm sorry we could not coexist here and I will be sad to see your insightful posts journey elsewhere.

I totally understand what you guys are both saying but you guys are taking this way to personally. This just an internet site. You guys are killing yourself over nothing. Im not all for advertising either but does it really bother you that much? I think you guys need to go modify an injector pump or go take a rip in your wonderful yet evil turbo diesels.

That is a one big ass nozzle, I would think that this would be too much fueling, but hey try it out and let us know man!

Is this a 0º nozzle or is different cone angle? Almost looks like a 12 degree test stand nozzle.

I don't have them here in PG, I belive that they are still at Dave's shop in Aldergrove. So if he has a moment or two mabey he could pull one apart and take pictures of it. They are 0 degree as well.
