Picture of blower motor resistor. The little cylindrical thing (maybe a diode), not sure what it is exactly and it doesn't show any form of continuity and was told that this one only worked on high mode (means resistor is junk)
I can't find a replacement resistor anywhere so I am trying to "repair" this one.
Any insight ?

It is a thermal cutout that blows if the resistor pack gets too hot...for instance, when the fan bearings wear and drag.
Radio shack used to have em...as do many appliance repair shops since they are found in hair dryers, coffee makers, waffle irons, etc.

Its out of an mk1 rabbit.
No idea what year this came out of because I am sure it was in probably two or three different ones.
okay, so where can I get a blower motor for a decent price? The reason I ask is because I have the heater box that was designed for A/C and the blower motor (cheapest I found) is about $150!!! :o Where the non-a/c version is ~$50..

In my minds eye it looks like the thermal fuse you have is rated for 152C... the Digikey one you link to is 128C... but I really don't think it matters that much... something that pops when the bearings seize will do fine. ;-)

Watching this thread. I just burned out my resistor due to a worn motor. I may actually try to rebuild the motor with some fresh brushes and bearings.
To OP: the non-AC blower motor requires a completely different defrost duct (mounted to the underside of the dash), a different box, different vent ducts, dash control, cables, etc. It's a lot of work, and may not be worth the effort when it's all said and done. That, and finding the parts will be difficult.
Here's a used motor for Westmoreland AC cars on vortex for CHEAP:

I almost bought this, but I already have 2 spares. But for 20 bux, it's totally worth it.

im sure radioshack (circuit city, the source) have them. They did last year.
