Title: Video of AAZ waterpump shaft wobble
Post by: Henchman on November 21, 2010, 06:15:59 pm
Changed out my waterpump this weekend (along with lots of other stuff).  Just a quick video of the play/wobble in the shaft.  It only started leaking last week, but got worse everyday.  The impeller had walked about 1/4" off the shaft at this point.

did you replace the inner only or a complete assy ( housing )

I hope you did the thermostat while there and fresh G12 plus ?

Wow, did it leak? I just changed my 2 year old water pump that wasn't quite that loose, I noticed it way early in the summer but didn't get a chance to replace it. It hardly got any worse after I fist noticed it.

I replaced just the pump, not the housing.  I was going to create a complete assembly because I have many spare bodies and seal it up ouside the vehicle, but that is a lot more labour intensive.  Thermostat with 1/4 bypass install mid summer.  I always use omni-coolant in the vw.  I was surprise at how clean the inside of the pump was! No scum or deposits.  I always mix with distilled water, so maybe that makes a difference.

Oil on the other hand I always use spec.
