Title: TD build - 1.6 vs 1.9 head + turbo help needed

Hi all,

Need to build up the 1.6TD sitting in my garage ASAP, as the old engine in the car I just bought is really tired. (Car itself is great & I got it for a song!)

Questions:

Is it worth the expense to buy a 1.9 head rather than the 1.6 head that I have here that's free?  Can I really expect enough more power to justify the cost?
Or, would that $$ be better spent elsewhere?

Anyone have suggestions on who to get a nice T3/T4 hybrid turbo from?  There is a KKK on there now.

Any help & advice appreciated...

keep the 1.9 aaz head, manifold, aaz exhaust manifold and do a hybrid KO3
If it's free ?

I have the 1.6 head - free.  I would have to buy a 1.9 AAZ head & am wondering if the power numbers are significantly better to justify the expense when I have a perfectly good 1.6 head here already.

Please weigh in with advice!  Let's hear your experience.

Not if all you are doing is putting on the 1.9 head. You will have tougher cold starts and the timing will be different than "normal". If you are going to be building up the engine, than the 1.9 head would be good. However, if you are planning on a hi performance build, you should deal with the head while it's off the car, ie. port and possibly source larger valves. Otherwise, the 1.6 head is what you should stick with.
