What is the difference between the AAZ and the 1.6TD pump? I want to use one with TDI camplate on a MTDI.
-
Probably better to start with a TDI pump & transfer your mechanical bits over to it rather than the other way. IDI pumps have a smaller shaft 17mm vs. 20mm IIRC) that has been found to fail by others.
-
and there are others on here running a 17mm pump shaft with 14mm(12mm?) pump heads with no problems.
-
Has anyone ever broken a 17mm shaft in an mtdi pump? I'm running a 11mm head on my aaz pump for over a year now with no troubles. I personally would use the aaz pump over a 1.6td pump mainly because it has more dynamic advance. Although it is possible to increase dynamic advance on the 1.6 pump as well.
-
i, personally have never even heard of a broken shaft.. i suppose its VERY possible, just never heard of it happening. i suppose its basically the same as all the killer pre cups that people keep talking about.. another one of those things that ive never personally seen..
-
It would be a mess if it happened that's for sure. If the pump shaft broke, the pump would turn into scrap metal and if it was bad enough it could also break the timing belt and damage the motor. :o
-
if the pump rotor siezed/snapped, it may break the drive pin and the rest be alright
if the pump drive shaft snapped, then i dont foresee much hope for the valves and pistons..
my bet is that the end of the shaft would simply twist/break off and the pulley/belt would just fall..

I didn't know you could convert a TDI pump to mechanical? Who has done this?
-
Are you kidding? What did you think an mtdi is? Not trying to be rude, but it's in your thread title. ???
-
I thought to make a TDI an M-TDI you had to convert an AAZ pump to work.. Didn't know you could also use an electronic TDI pump as your starting pump. Interesting.
-
A real tdi pump does not have the pivot bolt holes for the control lever. Plus I have also heard of no governor. So you use the guts of the tdi pump in a td pump body.

Oh now I see what he meant.

i have a thread in this section on "educate me on rover pumps" with good info from people who have used them.. ive even talked to 2 people thru im/pm who have used the pumps with success and one says lots of really nice hard to beleive numbers.. why its a guini pig thing for now..
goto the mod list, contact myke_w he can get ya more info as he has uk friends (buy via ebay uk and his friend will ship to him type of thing).. he has also shipped pumps to giles in the past and knows the custom/importing associated.. why having a friend ship to you is best as if you mess up the shipper/customs will be mad..
