Title: So what engine do I have?
Post by: mainer on December 31, 2005, 11:10:01 am
I was wondering what engine I have in my Jetta. Its an 84 5 speed. Its got 13 inch wheels on it. Is it a 1.6 or a 1.5? If you need the vin I can go get.

It should be a 1.6. 1.5's came in 1980 and earlier cars.

Well thats too bad! I was hopen for a 1.5, I've got a friend with a complete turbo kit for a 1.5 he told me there was a difference.

Thats what I was thinking, but is there any difference with the intake or something different on the head? Idk this person knows his VW's but isn't up on diesels.

Coop-
Not any real difference, if it would work on the 1.5 then it'd go right onto the 1.6  They did have slightly different looking snorkels and plastic airbox cover, but the bolts on the back of the head are all in the same spot.  Infact they are the same on the gas heads too.  The 1.5's were in the 77-80 models and 81 brought in the 1.6's.  I've got a 1.5 though if you want to trade it for your 1.6. :D

Hope this helps.

I see no reason why it shouldn't fit.
