Title: Torn half shaft..........
Post by: Patrick on October 04, 2010, 02:54:17 am
Guess my AAZ is working good. It's in a '92 jetta........... Pulled out of a friend's place last night, had to get on it hard because of traffic. Hit 2nd gear, went about 50 feet, and ping! half shaft on the passenger side is torn in two. Broke in about the middle. Never seen this before, I'll post a few pics when I get it out!

Yup, broke the axle, not the joint. Closer examination shows a crack that had been around for a while, as in it's rusted while the rest of the break isn't. looks like it was under the big rubber dampener?? as it's gone now. I'll post some pictures later. Can't tell you the origin of the shaft, I've had the car for quite a while, and there's about 4 more here I've been scavenging parts off for years. Tubing looks pretty light to me though..........

passenger side axle is always hollow. its VWs attempt to keep the axles equal weight to lessen torque steer..

i wanna see someone break the drivers side axle..
