Title: WTB 1998 TDI
Post by: the caveman on October 02, 2010, 08:56:32 am
I'm on the lookout for a good Jetta TDI 1997-99. Mileage doesn't really matter as much as  the condition of the body. Body must be in very good shape- no rot, perforations etc. Any mechanical issues welcome.

I have a bad feeling i may end up with one even though i find they feel tinny and cheap compared to VW's previous models. As far as i'm concerned, the only advantage over the older models is that the body metal is galvanized. I have said it before and will keep saying it-the MK3 TDI is the best car VW ever made. One reason I quit VW in 2005 after 21 years because i found their build philosophy and quality was dropping off. BUT i think i'm going to have a hard time finding a still solid 98

do you have a rotted out mk3 tdi car now you could use as a donor? lots of gas cars in the US with no rust just have to travel aways to get one.

If i could find a good gasser body i have one or two donors i could buy, but almost as hard to find here. I still get bummed out because just before i quit we were buying cars for cheap at auctions for the engines as VW needed cores and were paying $1000 for each. Plus another $500 for auto transmissions. We scrapped more than one perfect body MK3's .At the time i had zero place to keep any.
