Title: Just converted a n/a to td
Post by: goon on September 02, 2010, 05:55:25 am
Just took apart the 1.6 I had and did a small rebuild rings rod bearing main bearings hone and all new seals and gaskets. While I was at it I took a 1.6td setup and put it on there and also a oil to air cooler setup, I keep hearing that I need an egt gauge, and I'll be putting one on, I have oil temp and pressure would it be safe me me to drive it for a week or so till I get the money for the egt?

if you don't have the Boost and Fuel turned up then you should be fine.

I always had AAZs, and Never ran Boost, EGT, or Oil temp gauges. If your not blowing clouds of black smoke you should be fine.

It's a td pump, mani, turbo and well the whole set up on a td it's just on a n/a block... I haven't changed any settings yet at least not till I get an egt... It's the trapazoidal type flange I believe it's t2? Or t3 it's a kkk turbo

Well it could be a K14 off an eco diesel.

I would not hesitate to drive it.

Just don't fool with the wastegate or the max fuel screw until you get the egt gauge. Assuming the wastegate isn't frozen shut or that the PO didn't already screw with it. ;)

Get a boost gauge too. They are cheap, and beyond the tuning benefits, it is fun just to watch it react when you romp on the ol' smoke pedal. IMHO FI cars are made 10X more fun just by adding a boost gauge. ;D
