Title: Autocross race this saturday, august 14th
Post by: Dr. Diesel on August 08, 2010, 06:52:55 am
Howdy Volks,

I just wanted to let you know there's an autocross race this coming saturday, aug 14th, in southern Ontario.
I've got two other diesels going, and Giles is going with his (gag) Integra.
Come to watch or compete! Any level of preparedness, from bone stock to ultra super-duper is welcome as long as it can pass a very basic tech inspection.

The venue is the Bramalea GO-Train station, south lot.
Dixie Road, North of hwy 407, go East on advance blvd, then east again on Alfred Kuehne blvd, follow to the end.
$30 registration begins at 7:30am, come early to ensure a spot if you're going to enter. racing begins at 9am.

Here's a map link showing the station. Just south of the "A" marker you can see a little dead-end circle. that's the entry to the south lot.

Hope to see you there. VW presence in autocrossing is at an all-time low these days. It'd be great to see some more out there, or at least on the sidelines cheering the dubs and trashtalking the rest! haha

Do you have a link to rules or organizing body for the race?

Wow! The cricket chirping was becoming deafening there. It's difficult to convince people they'd have fun doing this stuff. A friend of mine is going in an n/a diesel jetta on stock suspension and street tires. As long as your car isn't on the verge of major breakdown, you can have a blast in any ride. I once went in a rental daewoo when my regular car was out for the count. Finished mid-pack and couldn't stop giggling throughout each run from the ridiculous gibbering noises the tires were making!

Anyway, to answer your question, here's the web address:

Hope to see you, and some more ontarian dieselites there, if only to support! I'll be in the greenish-grey rabbit diesel kicking some serious ass! Come say hi.

Only ever done this once, but highly recomend it. Did one in London at the airport about 30 years ago, just exhibition runs at the end. Wanted an excuse to try out my toy at the time, an Astre wagon with a 3.8 buickV6 with a borg warner 5 speed, good suspension and fat tires. Had a blast, and toasted a 5L mustang (too much wheelspin).
Can't make this one, would love to be there. Anyone with nothing to do that day should go!

was out practicing with another TD rabbit tonight. Set out a course w/ pylons in an empty industrial parking lot. SO much fun!! Took a couple vids, but they're huge and it's gonna take hours to transfer from my phone to my (old) computer via INFARED! I'll put 'em up when they're done. Morse code would be faster, i think.

CAN'T WAIT FOR SATURDAY!!! ;D

Good and bad. Turns out I sheared one of my trailing beam pivot bolts. The resulting rear end toe and thrust angle changes really messed with the handling, and I couldn't stop the car at the end! Even so, it was about a 51 second run, and applying the 3 second drop over consecutive runs (in a friend's TD rabbit) I managed throughout the day, that would have put me in the top 5, had I not sheared that bolt.  ;D
My friend allowed me to continue in his car, which was really nice, and by the last run had dropped from 54 seconds to 51 seconds. Even bone stock with generic/random lowering springs, his car handles great, and was a blast to drive.

I'll post some more vids on here soon, but in the meantime you can see them here:

Sounds like you were blasting it up.

As long as no blood shed or fluids dropped - thats a good day racing. :thumbs up:
