Title: Coolant NOT Pressurizing

So after a long drive yesterday back up from Toronto (~130kms) the engine was obviously up to operating temps.. PUll in to the driveway and give the engine a quick once over to make sure nothing has happened on the trip. (A quick peace of mind for me) Just out of curiosity I gave the rad hose a squeeze, squished just like it were cold and not running.. however it burnt my hand to touch.. I also could immediately after the trip unscrew the rad cap without any pressure escaping. Does it sound to you like a problem?

The temps stayed low, down in the bottom 1/4 of the gauge. No noticeable loss of coolant either.. whats going on?

Does your cap hold pressure?

me does not know. I assume not if it isn't holding any pressure eh..? also there is the remnants of coolant all over the rim of the bottle.. but no real loss in coolant.. and temps still rose on hard pulls So i dunno! J C

I'd say the cap's your problem. ;)

Get a working cap a.s.a.p., I have cracked heads before without one, but then again I am leadfoot. 8)  The 15 odd psi that the cap adds to the coolant raises the boiling point to 120C 240F?

The water pump will cavitate otherwise, and spins in a steam bubble, then if a bit of metal in the head gets to the local boiling point of the coolant, the coolant will turn into a steam bubble too. Steam shifts a lot less heat than water. So doom follows shortly. ;D

i have only been driving around locally.. or have i?? Last Thursday did 270kms.. temp was in the same spot on the gauge.. But yes new cap! Pickin one up tomorrow.
