Putting 39mm intake and 34mm exhaust valves in a 1.6 head. Just got the seats and vavle guides in. Need to do some work on the exhaust and a ton of work on the intake to get the ports to blend with the seats.

anyone know what comes in an AAZ head? valve size wise?
-
very cool, I was going to try this myself.
quick question though, how close does this put the valves to the side of the bore?
also, do you think there is enough meat in the head to port it to that extreme without getting too close to the water jacket?
is it a hydro, or a mech head, and where did you get your valves/seats?

It's a mech head.
-
Started bowl work. Seems to be plenty there to cut.

very cool, would you mind taking a pic with a headgasket on it to show how close the valves get to the sides of the bore?
-Owen
-
Don't have the headgasket with me. Putting a 1.9 metal gasket on it. Should have room, block is done .5mm over that will give a little exta.
-
Where did you get those valve's and seats ?
-
Machinest got the seats for me, the valves are of the shelf parts but I'm not sure if they will work quite yet.
-
when I was thinking of doing the same, I was thinking of using valves built for the aircooled VW.
they are cheap, available in a wide range of sizes(and in stainless) and have the right stem diameter to use the stock guides. the stems are too long, but any good machinist can cut them down to the proper length no problem.
you can get the stainless aircooled valves in just about whatever size you want for $10 per valve, and most of the retailers of the aircooled valves sell seats to match them too(but your machinist can probably get them for you cheaper)
are you willing to tell us how much you paid for the parts and machining?
I may just do this while I have my motor apart...

Seats and guides were around $350. Trying to make it work with off the shelf parts to keep cost down use readily available parts. Also going to be using a hydro cam, hopefully everything will work without custom parts.
-
are 1.9 and 1.6 valves the same size?
-
1,6 34in 31ex
1,9 36in 31ex
mech valves ~105mm long, hydr ~95mm.

41mm in / 35mm ex
ceramic coated,off course ;)

Maybe just a hair big for a 77mm bore.
-
good lord!
anyone know at what point the valves start getting shrouded by the cylinder wall?
and also, do the runners on the 1.6 head have enough flow to support such big valves? I have always thought that the sharp turn at the valve bowl was the big flow restriction, not the factory valve size.
not to say that bigger valves would not help, but I wonder what the point of diminishing returns is...

Same with the AAZ's Owen. when i ported my head i noticed it choked up incredibly at the 90 degree turn. Very worth noting.

My new engine is 80.5mm bore,next engine is 81.5 or more.(mayby more = )
Thats true, big valve isnt all ways better than orginal.Orginal bore (aaz/1Y) best size is somethink 38-39mm in and 33 ex.
This head i run dyno 0.6 bar boost 218hp in wheel.

What head did you use for that?
-
Itīs 1,9 head.
-
A 1.9 head must have wider valve spacing than a 1.6.
-
Almost done, don't think you can go any bigger in a 1.6 head.
