Title: Tell Me About 1.5 Engines....

I know some of you guys have them.  I am not interested in speed.

What are the differences between them and the 1.6D?  IIRC its the crank, pistons and rods, right?

I already have a set of remachined 1.7 gasser rods (are they used on the 1.5D)?  Are there any (other) common parts with the 1.6/1.7 gasser engine?

If I can find a 1.5 crank and pistons, can I get it to play in my 12mm 1.6 block?

What am I overlooking?

im pretty sure that 1.5 rods are not 1.7 gasser rods.

and good luck finding 1.5 pistons. they are made from unobtanium..

they are ( not that I would trust an ebay seller).  I can measure the gasser set I have and look in my old Diesel Bentley and compare the wrist pin and con rod bearing size, but that probably won't tell me that the rod itself is the same.

There's a new 1.5 crank and pistons on ebay now...the pistons I'm not so sure if they are stock or O/S.  Seems like I have seen NOS on ebay from time to time...

im pretty sure that 1.5-1.7 gassers DO NOT ALL USE THE SAME ROD.. i dont see how they could? they have different strokes and all that fun stuff..

i could be wrong..

MK1GOD (or something like that) on vortex has a NOS set of standard 1.5 pistons FWIW

1.5 rods have a 22mm wristpin.

I just measured the wristpin bushings on these gasser rods- 22mm.  I checked the rod bearings and they use the same ones as the 1.5D.  Question is the length and the actual construction .

1.5d and gas motors use the same rods.
