:( i see nothing with this link!
ditto, but I am watching this live world broadcast right now from Paris:
http://www.audi.com/audi/com/en1/experience/motorsport/r10.html
They clearly say they want to be the first manufacturer to win Le Mans with a diesel engine 8)
-
At the end of the live broadcast, they did a video segment of the car in action about the test track, and it looks amazing! More menacing as compared to the R8, and the sounds! That v-12 coupled with some insanely expensive turbos sounds like a space ship.
The engineers say it has 650bhp and 1100Nm! of torque coupled with piezo injectors delivering 2000 bar =~30Ksi of pressure... not bad
-
Sorry Caddy! :D
It seems that Motorsport went public a few hours earlier than they were supposed to, and got their pee-pees spanked by Audi, so pulled the link down until the correct time. Anyway, if you use that link now it will work (click on the Roll-out or Studio links), even though all the pics and more are on the direct Audi link provided by 2383GTD.
Thanks 2383GTD! :D
Woo hoo! 650 hp and 1100 nm...
BUt like all TDIs, it revs to only 5000 RPMs...
I can't wait to hear it!
-
nice! thanks a lot!
i go to le mans several time without interrest (because i have free tiket)
but now i hope to have one to see that monster tdi in action!!
i will ask a friend may be i could see the qualification session in the pit line!!!
-
somone know if i could record this video on my pc?
-
I am still looking for a link to the video - anybody have it?
-
My pleasure, and thanks for the heads up. The timing was near perfect. I also want to see the beginning of the video, as I started watching after 12 noon Paris time, but it seemed like I did catch the start. It is a must see!
Sorry Caddy! :D

Very cool... Completely different from the previous version R8 that had trouble lifting off the ground. Sort of reminding me of the batmobile. :D
The engine is a 5.5 liter V12 TDI and makes 650hp, so it's specific power is 118 hp per liter. Looks like some pretty ample plenum volume in tha intake manifolds there.
Audi's engine development head claimed that this was the highest specific power of any diesel engine in the world... say what? To beat them we'd need to make one of our 1.6's go over 188hp... With enough boost pressure, it seems achieveable to me. :o
The R10's usable powerband lies between 3000-5000RPM. Turbochargers limited to 2.94 bar absolute (about 28 psi) by rules. The rules also restrict the intake air to go through 2 restrictions of about 40mm (or a little over 1.5") each. It's not clear to me if the restrictors can be post compressor or if they must be pre-compressor.
-
The restrictors are on the intake, so pre-compressor.. just like on F1 cars.
The R10 is one wicked piece of car... would that powerplant fit in the back of my caddy?
-
Jake, per 5.2.1
Air restrictors location: a one piece and airtight right cone must be fitted between the restrictor(s) and the inlet diameter of the charging device.
Edit: Yup, what Maarten wrote ^^^^^^^^ :D
Edit 2: Yeah, and I notice that VNT turbos are permitted for diesels! :P

The Audi R-10 TDI "smoked" the field at the recent ALMS test day at Sebring, posting fastest lap. Here are partial results:
Audi R-10 LMP1 1:47:380*
Porsche RS-Spyder LMP2 1:49.477
Lola B05/40 LMP2 1:50.231
Lola B06/10 LMP1 1:50.359
Lola B01/60 LMP900 1:50.640
Courage C-65-H LMP2 1:55:960**
