A buddy of mine works for Dayton parts, which happens to make springs.. They're cleaning out their dead stock so he bough about 3 skids of odd strange and peculiars.. There just happened to be a set of front cargo coils that according to the listing fit 77-79 Rabbit.. For 10 bucks I nabbed them.. Now the question is, what is the difference from say 80 and up?? Just a different rate or something? They *look* like they'll fit otherwise...

I think early springs didn't have the pigtail coil at the top.
If they have the coil then they'll probably fit fine.

inside bar install load spring free end type
75-79 dia dia height rate(lbs) rate(lbs/in) height
CC200 4.48 0.473 7 604 111 13 Tangential Ends
80-84
CC204 4.562 0.485 10 433 88 14.88 1 Tangential End and 1 Pigtail End
Unless you've got an old rabbit they're pretty much useless. :'(

Hmm I thought the same thing.. Took apart the '78 I have sitting here just to check.. It has no pigtail but the new springs I have do.. Wonder it it could be a Euro/US thing or if I have some mis boxed springs.. At any rate they fit and they were 10 bucks.. All is good... ;D
