Should I just use 5w-40 year around?
-
Yes.
-
I use Rotella T6 in my PD and like it a lot. I used to do used oil analysis and it had great results.
-
I use 0W-40 Mobile1 Euro Blend in my ALH engine.
I get a little tappity tap on start up but it goes right away and Mobile1 full syn is good oil.
-
Rotella doesn't make any synthetic oils.

Is this a reference to some of the manufacturers labelling semi synthetic as fully synthetics, due to some change in the definition of a synthetic? Not baiting, just curious..
-
To my knowledge, Rotella does not (nor ever did) make a 15w/40 synthetic. They only made the 15w/40 dino oil. If you were running that in your ALH, start saving for a turbo.
The 5W/40 T6 synthetic meets the 505.00 specs for VW rotary injection pump engines. It does not however meet the specs for the PD motors (or, has not been submitted for testing AFAIK).

No. Its reference to the fact their "synthetic" oil is not synthetic. Its normal dino oil that has been extra-refined.

I ran rotella t for 300k in an alh it works great. I run it in my duramax too.

Rotella "S" is a Group III (severly hydrotreated from dino oil) that, like many others of its ilk, is a very good lubricant. HOWEVER, if you want the "real deal" use Delvac 1. It is a Group IV/V (PAO/Ester) blend and IMHO is about as good as it gets. There are several arguements as to Group III really being "synthesized" or not...so I won't go there.

Rotella 5w-40 synthetic
If it was over here for the price over there, it would be a no brainer. ;D

Ummm this is a false statement. I ran 15-40 non synthetic for over 150k and my turbo was fine when I upgraded. I now use the t6 5-40. And pd cams go bad even with the right oil. Some people have had good luck with it in pd's for well over 100k. I prefer castrol slx for pd's myself.
