I can't find part no. or sources for AAZ main or con rod bolts.
this site (http://headbolts.com/Volkswagon-Audi-diesel-fasteners.html) doesn't mention the aaz mains or rod bolts.
I looked at the page in the FAQ (http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=7919.15) but I couldn't find any answers on main bolts or con rod bolts.
I think the mains are 10x80mm. Does anyone know the exact measurement of the con rod bolts/are they really that "special"?
I'd like to just find some grade 12.9 bolts through theman53 or something like that.
He supplied me with bolts once before - I'd like to buy through him again if he's able and willing.
got this quote from Jack's lack thread (http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=22297.msg175376#quickreply).
So ARP wrote me back, they do not have a part# on hand for the AAZ, and they are going to need to know the specs on the bolt, length thread pitch, diameter...
I'll see if I can figure that out.
Owen, you have a PM
here is what I measured
bolt is an M8 it is 43mm long (I guess it is a 45)
the threaded portion is 32mm long
the pitch is 1.0 mm
and the head is a 12pt 10mm
I sent this info to ARP, so hopefully I will get a #. fingers crossed
the length of the threaded portion is weird, because the rod cap is like 27 mm deep at that point so 15 or 16 mm is all that is going to thread in anyway
the ALH con rod bolts are M8x1x45 and are threaded just at the end. I think they will work if I don't hear back from ARP tomorrow I'm gonna try them.
No response on the page regarding aaz rod bolts.
THE ENGINE IN QUESTION IS THE 1896CC AAZ 1.9L IDI

I sent you a PM, but I will post here for posterity.
I used the ALH connecting rod bolts. The spec is M8x1.0x45 (really more like 43mm) The differences are that the ALH bolts are only threaded for the last 13mm or so and the bolts I took out were threaded for 32mm, also the dowel on the ALH bolt is much closer to the threads. However they fit and torqued up nicely (VW part# on the bolt is 028 105 425C). I have over 1,000 miles on this set up to date, and so far so good.
Cheers

The dealer has all the bolts at fairly reasonable prices. They are all stretch. There are 2 different sizes of rod bolts according to the dealer depending on what year your engine is. (I have no idea)

The dealer has all the bolts at fairly reasonable prices.
Yup, you don't see "dealer" and "reasonable prices" in the same sentence very often, but in this case it's true.
-
What do you consider reasonable? The dealer said one rod bolt for a BEW motor is $16.00, what did they tell you?

I called a different dealer and found mains are $2.00 ea. and rods are $6.00 ea.
maybe the first guy was new.
cheers

I'm going to go dealer for rod bolts then... $50 for rod bolts isn't bad.
-
Yeah... I think the last time they were a couple bucks each for rod bolts and three bucks each for mains... in the overall scheme of things pretty cheap insurance. ;)
-
I've never bought anything from the stealership. Do i just show up? or do i have to call in advance?
The closest VW dealer that does maintenance is in maple ridge (about a 30 minute drive from me). I dont want to get there and have them tell me to come back tomorrow or something.
-
These days I find *everything* needs to be ordered in... here in Edmonton they get stuff in less than 24 hours from their main warehouse in Vancouver... so you might want to call first and pre-order.

Thanks Vince :)

I went with the dealer for both.
$3 per main bolt and $5.50 for the rod bolts (each).
-
I got the stuff from work, but you already bought. I had less than 15.00 in the mains and the oil pump bolts. I understand you need things quick though. I would still went with the arp for the con rods as the reusability factor.
-
aw crap you went ahead and got em anyways? that's okay... send them over and i'll pay you. Spares are always nice to have especially since every 4 cyl engine uses the same main bolts.
i would PM you but the forum suddenly doesn't work in my browser anymore.

There is 2 different main bolts used in aaz. M10x65 same as 1,6 and newer M10x80. Also there is 2 different con rod bolts, M8x1x42 and M8x1x45. 45mm bolt centers the cap in rod.

Oh, thanks. I'm going to bring the old bolts when i get the new ones. Might be a stroke of luck and the stealership ordered the wrong one and i get a return on them and i use theman53's bolts! :D
